If Facebook keeps crashing on your iPhone after updating iOS, you’re not alone. This is a common issue that can happen when app data conflicts with new system files or when the internet connection gets unstable after the update. The good news? There are several proven ways to fix it.
1. Check If the Problem’s Only With the App
Before diving into fixes, open Safari and go to facebook.com. If the site loads fine and you can log in, the problem is likely isolated to the app — not your account or Facebook’s servers.
2. Force Close Facebook and Restart Your iPhone
Sometimes the app just needs a fresh start, especially if it was running during the update.
Here’s how:
- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle.
- Swipe left or right to find Facebook.
- Swipe it up to force close.
- Then, press and hold the Side button and Volume Up until you see slide to power off.
- Slide to turn it off, wait 30 seconds, and power it back on.
3. Refresh Your Internet Connection
Unstable Wi-Fi can cause Facebook to crash, especially if it can’t maintain a connection to the server.
Quick fix options:
- Toggle Wi-Fi Off and On:
- Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and turn it off for a few seconds, then turn it back on.
- Use the Airplane Mode Trick:
- Go to Settings > Airplane Mode and toggle it on.
- Restart your phone while Airplane Mode is on.
- Once back on, go to Settings and turn Airplane Mode off again.
- Forget and Reconnect to Wi-Fi:
- Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and tap the “i” next to your network.
- Tap Forget This Network, then reconnect and enter the password.
4. Update the Facebook App
Sometimes, the Facebook app just needs an update to play nice with the new iOS version.
To check for updates:
- Open the App Store.
- Tap your profile icon at the top right.
- Scroll down to see available updates.
- Tap Update next to Facebook — or hit Update All.
You can also long-press the App Store icon on your Home screen and tap Updates for a shortcut.
5. Reset All Settings
If the update changed system settings that are now clashing with the app, resetting everything back to default can help.
Here’s how:
- Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset.
- Tap Reset All Settings.
- Enter your passcode if asked and confirm.
This won’t delete your data, but it will reset things like Wi-Fi passwords and privacy settings.
6. Reinstall the Facebook App
A clean install can fix corrupted app data that didn’t get along with the iOS update.
To delete and reinstall:
- Long-press the Facebook app icon until the menu appears.
- Tap Remove App > Delete App.
- Open the App Store, search for Facebook, and tap Get or the cloud icon to reinstall it.
Once installed, open Facebook and sign back in. Use it for a while to see if the crashing stops.
7. Check Content & Privacy Restrictions
It’s possible that the app is being limited by Screen Time settings.
To check:
- Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions.
- Make sure restrictions are turned off, or that Facebook is allowed.
8. Still Crashing? Check If Facebook Is Down
It might not be your phone at all — sometimes Facebook’s servers are the issue.
Go to Downdetector and check for real-time outage reports.
9. Report the Issue
If all else fails, reach out:
- Report the bug through the Facebook Help Center.
- Contact Apple Support if you suspect it’s an iOS-level issue.
