Just updated your iPhone to iOS 13.3 and now Facebook keeps crashing or won’t stay open? You’re not alone. This is a common issue that can happen after major iOS updates — usually due to software glitches, outdated app versions, or broken network settings. Here’s how to fix it and get Facebook working normally again.
1. Restart Your iPhone
A fresh reboot can fix minor glitches and help apply post-update changes properly.
Soft Reset:
- Press and hold the Side button + Volume Up (or Down) until the power off slider appears.
- Drag the slider to turn off your iPhone.
- Wait 30 seconds, then hold the Side button again until you see the Apple logo.
Force Restart (if the screen freezes):
- Quickly press and release Volume Up.
- Quickly press and release Volume Down.
- Press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears.
After restarting, launch Facebook and check if it still crashes.
2. Update the Facebook App (and All Other Apps)
Outdated apps can misbehave after an iOS update. Updating Facebook could include bug fixes that solve your crashing issue.
Here’s how to update your apps:
- Open the App Store.
- Tap your profile icon at the top right.
- Scroll to the Available Updates section.
- Tap Update next to Facebook (or tap Update All).
When updates finish, reboot your iPhone again and test Facebook.
3. Reset Network Settings
Sometimes iOS updates tweak your network settings in a way that breaks app functionality — especially if Facebook crashes while loading content.
To reset network settings:
- Go to Settings > General > Reset.
- Tap Reset Network Settings.
- Enter your passcode and confirm.
This will erase saved Wi-Fi passwords and custom VPNs, so make sure you reconnect to Wi-Fi afterward.
4. Clear Facebook App Cache
Corrupted data stored in Facebook’s system files can cause the app to crash.
To clear the app’s data:
- Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage.
- Scroll down and tap Facebook.
- Tap Delete App (this removes cached data too).
- Reinstall it via the App Store afterward.
Note: iOS doesn’t allow clearing cache directly, so reinstalling is the best way to wipe app data.
5. Uninstall and Reinstall Facebook
If updates and resets didn’t help, a full uninstall might fix corrupted files or installation glitches.
How to do it:
- Tap and hold the Facebook app icon.
- Tap Remove App > Delete App, then confirm.
- Restart your iPhone.
- Open the App Store, search for Facebook, and reinstall it.
Once reinstalled, sign in and test the app.
Still Crashing? Contact Support
If none of the above steps helped, the issue may be on Facebook’s end — or there could be a compatibility issue that needs patching.
- Contact Facebook Support to report the issue.
