How to Fix Slow Internet Browsing on iPhone XS Max

Noticing painfully slow browsing on your iPhone XS Max? Whether pages are taking forever to load or you’re stuck staring at a spinning wheel, it can be a major headache. The good news is, slow browsing is often fixable — and you don’t need to be a tech pro to troubleshoot it.

Here’s how to get your iPhone XS Max browsing fast and smooth again.

Step 1: Restart Your Modem and Router

Before diving into your phone, try rebooting your Wi-Fi equipment.

  • Unplug your router and modem from power for about 30 seconds.
  • Plug them back in and wait for everything to reconnect.

If every device on your network is slow, this step alone might solve it.

Step 2: Force Close Your Browser App

If you’ve had Safari or another browser open for a while, it might be bogged down.

  • Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause.
  • Find your browser app and swipe up to close it.

Do this for other apps too — especially ones running in the background.

Step 3: Restart Your iPhone XS Max (Soft Reset)

Sometimes your phone just needs a quick refresh.

  • Press and hold the Side button and either Volume button.
  • When “Slide to power off” appears, slide it and wait for the phone to shut off.
  • After 30 seconds, press and hold the Side button to turn it back on.

No data will be lost — this just clears out temporary glitches.

Step 4: Clear Safari Cache and Cookies

Old website data can pile up and slow Safari down.

  • Go to Settings → Safari.
  • Tap Clear History and Website Data.
  • Confirm by tapping Clear History and Data.

If you’re using Chrome or another browser, look for similar settings in that app or delete and reinstall it for a fresh start.

Step 5: Update Your Browser App

Outdated apps can run poorly — or glitch out completely.

  • Open the App Store.
  • Tap Updates at the bottom.
  • If your browser has an update, tap Update.

To refresh everything, you can also hit Update All.

Step 6: Reinstall the Browser App

Still slow? Your browser might be corrupted. Try a clean install.

  1. Tap and hold the browser icon until it jiggles.
  2. Tap the X and confirm Delete.
  3. Restart your iPhone.
  4. Go to the App Store and reinstall the app.

Step 7: Reset All Settings

A recent update or tweak may have messed with your network settings.

  • Go to Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset.
  • Tap Reset All Settings.
  • Enter your passcode and confirm.

This won’t erase your data, but it will reset things like Wi-Fi passwords and preferences.

Step 8: Factory Reset (Last Resort)

If nothing else works, you might need a full reset.

Important: Back up your data first.

  • Go to Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  • Tap Erase All Content and Settings.
  • Enter your passcode and confirm.

You can also restore using iTunes or Finder on a computer if needed.
