How to Fix Slow Internet Browsing on iPhone 7 Plus

If your iPhone 7 Plus is crawling when loading websites or apps, there could be a lot going on behind the scenes. From browser glitches and bad Wi-Fi to outdated settings or iOS bugs, slow browsing is a common (but fixable) issue.

Here’s a complete step-by-step guide to help you speed things up.

Try a Different Browser First

Before diving deep, see if the issue is specific to one browser.

  • If Safari is slow, try Google Chrome, Firefox, or DuckDuckGo.
  • If other browsers work fine, then Safari is the problem.
  • In that case, clear Safari’s history and data:
    • Go to Settings → Safari → Clear History and Website Data.

Still slow on all browsers? Move on to the next steps.

Close All Apps and Restart the Browser

Apps running in the background can slow everything down, including your browsing speed.

To close apps and refresh your browser:

  1. Double press the Home button.
  2. Swipe up on Safari or any browser you’re using.
  3. Also close other background apps to free up memory.

Then relaunch your browser and test your connection.

Restart Your iPhone (Soft Reset)

A simple reboot can fix a surprising number of random issues.

  1. Hold the Power button until “slide to power off” appears.
  2. Slide to turn off the phone.
  3. Wait 30 seconds, then press the Power button again to turn it back on.

No data will be lost — this is just a quick refresh for your system.

Toggle Wi-Fi Off and Back On

Sometimes your Wi-Fi radio just needs a reset.

  • Go to Settings → Wi-Fi, turn it off, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on.
  • Or toggle Airplane Mode ON and OFF from Control Center to refresh all radios.

This can help resolve temporary signal drops or weird Wi-Fi behavior.

Forget Wi-Fi Network and Reconnect

If your phone is having trouble with one specific Wi-Fi network, forget it and reconnect fresh.

  1. Go to Settings → Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap the “i” icon next to your connected network.
  3. Tap Forget This Network, then confirm.
  4. Reconnect by selecting the network again and entering your password.

Still sluggish? Reset all network settings in the next step.

Reset Network Settings

This will clear all saved Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth pairings, and VPN settings.

  1. Go to Settings → General → Reset → Reset Network Settings.
  2. Enter your passcode if asked, then confirm.

Once the phone restarts, reconnect to Wi-Fi and test the browsing speed.

Check for iOS Updates

Outdated software can introduce all sorts of connectivity bugs.

  1. Go to Settings → General → Software Update.
  2. If an update is available, tap Download and Install.

If Wi-Fi is too slow to download the update, connect your iPhone to a computer with iTunes and update it there.

Restart Your Router (Power Cycle)

If all your devices are slow on the same Wi-Fi network:

  1. Turn off your modem and router.
  2. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  3. Plug them back in and wait for the lights to stabilize.

Give it a minute, then reconnect your iPhone to Wi-Fi.

Other Things to Check

  • Is your internet plan being throttled? Contact your internet provider to see if your data is being capped.
  • Check for service outages. Your ISP may be experiencing regional issues.
  • Try a factory reset (last resort) — only after backing up your data. This clears everything and sets your iPhone up fresh.
