If your iPhone 12 keeps suggesting weird or outdated words while you type, it might be time to reset the keyboard dictionary. This clears out any custom words or autocorrect mistakes you’ve accidentally saved and restores the keyboard to its default state.
Here’s how to do it in just a few steps.
Why Reset the Keyboard Dictionary?
Over time, your iPhone learns new words based on what you type — even if those are typos. If autocorrect is getting more annoying than helpful, a reset can give you a clean slate. It won’t affect your personal data, but it will delete all saved keyboard history and custom suggestions.
Steps to Reset Keyboard Dictionary on iPhone 12
- Open Settings
From the Home screen, tap the Settings app. - Go to General
Scroll down and tap General. - Tap Transfer or Reset iPhone
Scroll to the bottom and tap Transfer or Reset iPhone. (On older iOS versions, it may just say “Reset.”) - Select Reset
Tap Reset from the bottom menu. - Choose Reset Keyboard Dictionary
From the list of reset options, tap Reset Keyboard Dictionary. - Enter Your Passcode
If prompted, enter your device passcode to confirm the reset. - Confirm the Reset
Tap Reset Dictionary on the pop-up to confirm.
Once that’s done, your keyboard will forget all learned words and autocorrect history. It’s like giving autocorrect a fresh start.
