Snapchat Keeps Crashing on iPhone 7 After iOS 11.4 Update? Here’s How to Fix It

Just updated your iPhone 7 to iOS 11.4 and now Snapchat’s suddenly crashing or won’t even open? You’re not the only one. This kind of app issue is pretty common after a big iOS update — but luckily, there are some quick and effective ways to fix it. Here’s how to get Snapchat working normally again.

Make Sure Your Internet Connection Is Stable

Snapchat won’t load or work properly without a solid internet connection. Before anything else, double-check your Wi-Fi or cellular data:

  • Try opening Safari and visiting a few websites.
  • If pages don’t load or are super slow, fix your connection first.
  • You can also toggle Airplane Mode on and off to refresh all wireless radios.

If your connection is good and Snapchat is still acting up, move on to the next fix.

Force Close Snapchat and Restart Your iPhone

Glitchy apps are a typical side effect after a system update. A simple force close and reboot can work wonders.

To force close Snapchat:

  1. Press the Home button twice quickly to bring up the app switcher.
  2. Find Snapchat and swipe up on the preview to close it.
  3. Do the same for any other background apps.

Then restart your iPhone:

  • Press and hold the Power button, then slide to power off.
  • Wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on.

Now launch Snapchat again and see if it behaves.

Turn Wi-Fi Off and Back On

If your iPhone has a flaky Wi-Fi connection, Snapchat might be failing to load content properly. Give your Wi-Fi a quick refresh.

  1. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
  2. Turn Wi-Fi off, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on.

You can also try the Airplane Mode trick:

  • Toggle Airplane Mode on, wait 10 seconds, then toggle it off again.

Update Snapchat (and Any Other Apps)

When iOS updates roll out, developers often push app updates to stay compatible. If you haven’t updated Snapchat since upgrading to iOS 11.4, now’s the time.

  1. Open the App Store.
  2. Tap your profile icon (top right corner).
  3. Scroll to Snapchat — if an update is available, tap Update.
  4. You can also tap Update All if other apps need it too.

Once updates are done, restart your phone and launch Snapchat.

Reset All Settings

Sometimes iOS updates mess with your settings — enough to confuse some apps. A quick settings reset can undo that without deleting your data.

  1. Go to Settings > General > Reset.
  2. Tap Reset All Settings.
  3. Enter your passcode if asked, then confirm the reset.

This won’t delete your photos, messages, or apps — but it will reset things like Wi-Fi passwords, Bluetooth pairings, and wallpaper settings.

Delete Snapchat and Reinstall It

If none of the above worked, Snapchat itself might’ve gotten corrupted during the update. Reinstalling it gives you a clean slate.

To delete Snapchat:

  1. Tap and hold the Snapchat icon on your Home screen.
  2. Tap the X when it appears.
  3. Tap Delete to confirm.

To reinstall:

  1. Open the App Store.
  2. Tap Search and type “Snapchat.”
  3. Tap Get (or the cloud icon) next to Snapchat.
  4. Sign in with your Apple ID if needed.

Once installed, open Snapchat and sign in again. It should now run smoothly with the latest iOS.
