iPhone 8 Plus Has No Sound? Here’s How to Fix It
If your iPhone 8 Plus suddenly stops making sound—no ringtones, alerts, music, or call audio—it can be incredibly frustrating. The issue could be a simple software glitch, misconfigured settings, or, in rare cases, hardware damage. Below are the most reliable solutions to help you bring the sound back on your iPhone 8 Plus.
Flip the Ringer Switch
Sometimes the simplest fix works. Toggling the ringer switch can wake up the audio system if it glitched.
- Flip the Ringer/Silent switch (on the left side of the iPhone) down to turn Silent Mode on (you’ll see orange).
- Wait a few seconds, then flip it back up to turn the ringer on again.
Remove your case if the switch seems stuck or hard to move—it may be interfering.
Restart or Force Restart Your iPhone
A quick reboot clears temporary software glitches that could be affecting the sound system.
To soft restart:
- Hold the Power button until you see Slide to Power Off.
- Slide to turn it off, wait 30 seconds, then press Power again to restart.
To force restart:
- Quickly press and release the Volume Up button.
- Quickly press and release the Volume Down button.
- Press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears.
Turn Bluetooth Off
Your iPhone may still think it’s connected to a Bluetooth speaker or headset—even if it’s not.
To disable Bluetooth:
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn the switch off.
- Or swipe down to access Control Center and tap the Bluetooth icon to disable it.
This forces your phone to use its built-in speaker instead of an invisible audio device.
Reset All Settings
If an update or app accidentally changed key audio settings, this reset will restore all defaults without erasing your data.
- Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset.
- Tap Reset All Settings.
- Enter your passcode and confirm.
Your saved Wi-Fi networks and preferences will be erased, but your photos and apps stay safe.
Do a Full Factory Reset (If Nothing Else Works)
If the issue is deeper and none of the above works, a factory reset wipes your device clean and removes any lingering software bugs.
To factory reset:
- Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings.
- Enter your passcode and confirm.
Important: Back up your data before doing this, as everything will be erased.
Still No Sound? It Might Be Hardware
If your iPhone still refuses to make sound—even after a full reset—you could be dealing with:
- A damaged speaker
- A faulty audio chip (common after drops)
- Liquid damage
Visit an Apple Store or authorized repair center to have your iPhone checked.
