How to fix iPhone 8 Plus Safari app that is frequently crashing, sluggish or loading very slow (easy steps)

One of the key services that come preinstalled on the new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus handsets is Apple’s very own browser called Safari. Despite the availability of other browser apps for iOS devices, many people would still opt to use Safari when browsing web contents on their iOS device for consistency. But just like any other app, Apple’s browser can also become rogue especially when afflicted by software bugs. Surfacing among the most common problems with the Safari app on the iPhone 8 Plus is on random crashes, freezes, sluggishness or slow browsing. And it turned out that many people have experienced these symptoms after installing the latest version of iOS on their respective devices. Something in the new update is apparently preventing Safari from performing at its best.

There are also other factors that can cause the same trouble when browsing the web using Safari in iOS devices. Cached files and data in Safari, network/server errors, unsupported sites or contents and memory issues on the iPhone are among the usual triggers. There are also some cases when the problem is isolated to a certain webpage or website. Overall, the underlying cause is related to the software, which therefore denotes that it’s possible to be resolved by end-users.

How to troubleshooting iPhone 8 Plus with Safari that keeps crashing or loading so slow

When it comes to app-related concerns, you can fix them without any help from an Apple tech. So, here are the things you should do when Safari frequently crashes on your iPhone 8+…

Clear History, Cache, and Data from Safari

Every browsing activity you do on your browser including the websites you’ve visited, viewed pages, site logins, and the like is registered and stored in your browser history and cache folder. This data will be used by your browser so that it will be able to load the same information quickly the next time you request access. However it is also possible for any of these cached files and data to become corrupted. If that happens, browser issues are more likely to instigate. For this reason, periodic clearing of cache and data from the Safari app or any other apps is recommended. If you haven’t done this yet, then try doing so with these steps:

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap Safari.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen then tap the option to Clear History and Website Data.

Wait until the cache and website data clearing is complete then try launching the Safari app again. Do some test browsing by accessing different websites as you normally do then see if the problem is gone. If not, then try other solutions.

Quit Safari and reboot your iPhone 8 Plus

Forcing the Safari app to close is necessary if the browser suddenly gets frozen or not responding. In this case, closing the app the usual way won’t be possible thus a forced close is needed. To force the Safari app to close on your iPhone 8 Plus, follow these steps:

  1. Double-press the Home button on your iPhone to show your most recently used apps.
  2. Swipe right or left to locate the Safari app.
  3. Swipe up on the Safari app preview to close it.

Once the app is closed, restart your iPhone 8 Plus (soft reset). You can use the restart option from your iPhone settings or do the usual procedure through the Power button or Side button.

When your iPhone reboots, try to open the Safari app then do some test browsing to see if the problem is fixed and that Safari is once again stable.

Install any iOS update for your iPhone to upgrade Safari to the latest version

Unlike the desktop version of Safari, updating the mobile version of the app is done through installing a new iOS update available. So any new iOS version released by Apple needs to be installed so as to keep your Safari app updated.

To check for available update on your iPhone, go to Settings-> General-> Software Update. An update notification appears on your Settings menu if an update is available.

If there is, then backup your iPhone data for safekeeping and follow the onscreen instructions to download and install the iOS update file on your device. That update will include the latest mobile-optimized version of Safari.

Turn Airplane Mode on and off

It’s an old trick that’s able to save many iPhone users who have dealt with various type of connectivity issues. Doing so will disable connectivity features on the iPhone, allowing you to purge any problematic tabs. For starters, here’s how it’s done:

  1. Tap Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Tap Airplane Mode.
  3. Then tap the switch to turn Airplane mode on. Doing so will disable all wireless services on your device.
  4. After 30 seconds, tap the switch to turn Airplane mode off again.

Airplane mode can also be accessed and configured from the Control Center. Just swipe up from the bottom of the screen then select the Airplane Mode icon to turn the feature on or off. Try to see if that works for you as well.

Reset network settings on your iPhone 8 Plus

A network settings reset can also fix the same problems with Safari browser especially if that symptoms are tied to network or server errors. Doing so will erase your current network settings (along with any errors) and then restores them to the original network configurations. So make sure you take note of your Wi-Fi network information and passwords as you’ll be needing it when you set up and reconnect to your wireless network afterwards. Here’s how a network settings reset is done on your iPhone 8 Plus:

  1. Tap Settings from Home.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Scroll to and tap Reset.
  4. Select the option to Reset Network Settings. Selecting this option will delete any saved Wi-Fi profiles from your device.
  5. If prompted, enter your device passcode.
  6. Then tap the option to confirm.

Your iPhone will reboot when the reset is complete. After the reboot, try to launch Safari and see if the problem is fixed. If the problem persists, then consider other options including the ones highlighted below.
