If you’re missing important calls because they go directly to voicemail on your iPhone 7 Plus, it’s more than just frustrating—it can cause serious communication breakdowns. The good news is, this issue is often caused by something simple like a settings misfire or a software hiccup. Here’s how to troubleshoot and fix it.
1. Check Your Signal and Airplane Mode
If your iPhone isn’t getting signal, it obviously can’t receive calls.
- Look at the signal bars in the top-left corner. If it says “No Service”, move to an area with better coverage.
- Make sure Airplane Mode is turned off:
- Go to Settings > Airplane Mode or swipe up to open Control Center and tap the airplane icon.
2. Turn Off Do Not Disturb
Do Not Disturb silences calls and can send them straight to voicemail—even if your phone is on.
To disable it:
- Swipe up to open Control Center and tap the crescent moon icon to turn it off.
- Or go to Settings > Do Not Disturb, and toggle it off.
- Also check for Scheduled DND in the same menu and turn that off too.
Bonus: Check for Do Not Disturb While Driving
- Go to Settings > Control Center > Customize Controls
- Add Do Not Disturb While Driving
- Swipe up from the bottom and make sure it’s disabled.
3. Set “Announce Calls” to Always
Some users have fixed this issue by changing how iOS handles call announcements.
- Go to Settings > Phone > Announce Calls
- Select Always
Reboot your phone and check if you can receive calls again.
4. Update Your Carrier Settings
Your iPhone connects to your mobile network using carrier settings, which sometimes get outdated.
- Go to Settings > General > About
- If a carrier update is available, you’ll see a pop-up. Tap Update
5. Update Your iPhone via iTunes
Outdated iOS versions can sometimes cause bugs like this.
- Connect your iPhone to your computer
- Open iTunes
- Click your iPhone icon at the top
- Select Check for Update
- If available, follow the prompts to update
Make sure to back up your data beforehand.
6. Reset Network Settings
If something’s gone wrong in your network configuration, reset it.
- Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
- Enter your passcode
- Your iPhone will restart and network settings will return to default
Note: You’ll need to reconnect to Wi-Fi and re-enter passwords afterward.
Still Not Getting Calls? Contact Your Carrier
If none of these fixes work, the issue might be with your mobile service provider. Reach out to your carrier to check for:
- Outages or maintenance in your area
- Account-related issues (like a block on incoming calls)
- Voicemail or call forwarding configurations
