How to Fix iPhone 7 Not Staying Connected to Wi-Fi

If your iPhone 7 connects to Wi-Fi but then drops the connection shortly after—switching back to LTE or showing no internet—you’re not alone.
This is a common (but fixable) issue. Here’s a step-by-step guide to get your iPhone 7 staying connected to Wi-Fi properly again.

Problem Summary

The Issue:

  • iPhone 7 connects briefly to Wi-Fi, then disconnects.
  • Other devices stay connected without issues.
  • Resetting the router doesn’t seem to help.
  • Problem happens across multiple Wi-Fi networks.

Good news:
This suggests the issue is with your iPhone, not your home internet.

Things to Check First

  • Make sure your iPhone 7 is updated to the latest iOS version.
(Settings > General > Software Update)
  • Check if the Wi-Fi network itself is stable by testing other devices (like laptops or tablets).

How to Fix iPhone 7 Wi-Fi Disconnect Issues

1. Restart Both Your Router and Your iPhone

Simple but effective:

  • Unplug your router for about 30 seconds and plug it back in.
  • Restart your iPhone by holding the Power button and sliding to power off.

2. Forget and Reconnect to Wi-Fi

Clear any connection glitches by forgetting the Wi-Fi network and reconnecting.

Steps:

  • Settings > Wi-Fi.
  • Tap the (i) next to your Wi-Fi network.
  • Tap Forget This Network.
  • Reconnect by entering your Wi-Fi password again.

3. Reset Network Settings

If the issue persists, reset your network settings.

Steps:

  • Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
  • Your Wi-Fi passwords will be erased, so make sure you know them beforehand.

4. Test with Other Wi-Fi Networks

  • Try connecting your iPhone to Wi-Fi at a coffee shop, a friend’s house, or another hotspot.
  • If the issue only happens at one location, the problem might be with that router.
  • If the problem happens everywhere, it’s definitely the iPhone.

5. Restore Your iPhone As New (Only If Necessary)

If nothing else works, restoring your iPhone may solve deep software glitches.

Important:

  • Backup your iPhone first.
  • Go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
  • Set up your iPhone as new—do not restore from a backup yet.
  • Test Wi-Fi stability before reinstalling apps.

If Wi-Fi Still Doesn’t Work…

At this point, it’s time to contact Apple Support.
There could be a hardware issue with your iPhone’s Wi-Fi antenna.

Quick Tip

If your iPhone automatically jumps to LTE instead of staying on Wi-Fi, try turning off Wi-Fi Assist:

  • Go to Settings > Cellular.
  • Scroll all the way down.
  • Turn Wi-Fi Assist off.

  1. Hi, i recently bought iPhone 7. Previous I was using samsung galaxy s3. I noticed that my iphone will not stay connected to my college hostel wifi which requires login (username & password) to college network page. I did not encounter this problem when i was using android previously. Every time i login, it only connects to the wifi for a short period of time before it switches to mobile data. And i had to repeat the whole process multiple times in a day which is very annoying. When i go back home, it stay connected to the wifi just fine. I tried asking the IT dept to reset the hostel router, but the problem persists.
