iPhone 7 No Service Error After Update? Here’s How to Fix It
Apple recently acknowledged an issue where some iPhone 7 models show a “No Service” message even when a network is available. If your device qualifies, Apple will fix it for free through a repair program. But if the No Service error started after updating to iOS 11 — not because of a faulty hardware component — you might be able to fix it yourself with a few troubleshooting steps.
Here’s what you can do.
1. Check Cellular Data Settings
First, make sure cellular data is turned on:
- Go to Settings > Cellular.
- Make sure Cellular Data is enabled.
After toggling it on (or off and then on again), restart your iPhone 7 and see if the error disappears.
2. Update Carrier Settings
Carrier updates can improve connectivity and fix network bugs.
- Connect your iPhone to Wi-Fi or cellular data.
- Go to Settings > General > About.
- If a carrier update is available, you’ll see a prompt. Follow the instructions to install it.
Restart your phone after updating.
3. Remove and Reinsert the SIM Card
Sometimes, simply reseating the SIM can fix network glitches.
- Turn off your iPhone.
- Insert a SIM eject tool (or a paperclip) into the SIM tray hole on the right side of the phone.
- Remove the SIM card and check for damage.
- Carefully reinsert the SIM and close the tray.
- Turn your iPhone back on and check if service returns.
4. Reset Network Settings
If network settings got corrupted after the update, resetting them can help.
- Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
- Enter your passcode if prompted.
- Confirm the reset.
This wipes saved Wi-Fi passwords and VPN settings, but it could clear up the No Service problem.
5. Check for a New iOS Update
Apple often releases small updates to patch bugs after a major iOS release.
- Go to Settings > General > Software Update.
- If an update is available, download and install it.
Make sure to back up your iPhone before updating, just in case.
Still No Service? Here’s What to Do Next
- Contact your carrier to check your account status and confirm there’s no local network outage.
- Visit an Apple Store or authorized service provider. If your iPhone 7 is covered by the logic board repair program, the repair will be free.
- Contact Apple Support for further help if needed.
If hardware is at fault, only an Apple technician can properly fix it.
