- A report suggests that Apple could unveil a cheaper version of the AirPods Pro, probably known as the AirPods Pro “Lite”.
- These earbuds will reportedly be cheaper than the AirPods Pro but will sit above the standard AirPods in the pricing tier.
- The report adds that the new earbuds will have a system-in-package or SiP, suggesting that Apple may retain some of the features from the AirPods Pro.
According to a new report by well-known source Digitimes, Apple could introduce a new “Lite” version of the AirPods Pro earbuds that have been immensely popular since its arrival in the market a few months ago.
This Lite version will be designed to provide three earbuds options from the company, with this model said to be priced below the AirPods Pro and over the standard $159 AirPods. The report adds that Universal Scientific Industrial (USI) from Taiwan will manufacture the AirPods Pro Lite for Apple.
It’s also worth mentioning that the name hasn’t been confirmed as of yet, so Apple may well choose to call it something else on launch day. It is also said that these new earbuds will come with a system-in-package or (SiP) architecture, strongly indicating that it may provide some of the features from the AirPods Pro.
For Apple to launch a cheaper alternative of the AirPods Pro does make sense, especially when we consider the fact that the iPhone SE successor, known as the iPhone 9, is expected to break cover by the end of March.
The AirPods Pro has been a runaway success for Apple. The demand was so high that it was pretty hard to get hold of one as of recently. However, the sudden and massive outbreak of the Coronavirus is said to have slowed Apple’s supply-chain to a great extent.
