How to fix an iPhone 8 Plus that shows liquid has been detected warning after an update [Troubleshooting Guide]

One of the iOS 10 features introduced by Apple is a warning system that prompts users whenever liquid traces or moisture is detected in the Lightning port. The warning usually occurs when charging or when connecting the iOS device to a computer via USB connector or Lightning cable. The warning says, “Disconnect lightning accessory. Liquid has been detected in the Lightning connector. To protect your iPhone, disconnect this Lightning accessory and allow the connector to dry.” While you may have the option to Ignore this warning, doing so may likewise put your device at risk because it wouldn’t prompt you with such warning if it hasn’t detected any sort of liquid traces in the Lightning port in the first place unless the warning is triggered by a software glitch like an update bug.

Verify and ensure no traces of moist in the Lightning/charging port.

While this iPhone is built to be water resistant, it’s not actually waterproof. So given the circumstances, it may still accumulate any sort of liquid damage when exposed to moist, water, or other types of liquid. Follow these steps to perform a standard iOS restore in iTunes and restore your iPhone 8 Plus to factory defaults or from a previous iOS backup:

  1. While your iPhone is connected and recognized in iTunes, click the option to Restore iPhone to factory defaults and then set it up as new.
  2. If you want to downgrade or restore to a previous iOS backup file, you may do so by clicking on the Restore Backup in iTunes button and then select the iOS backup file you want to use.
  3. You may refer to the date and size of each backup and choose the most relevant.
  4. Finally click the Restore button and wait for the restore to complete.
  5. If prompted, enter the correct password for all your encrypted backups.
  6. When the restore is finished, your iPhone will reboot automatically.
