How to change Apple ID on Macbook [Starters Guide]

While most usernames aren’t changeable, the Apple ID is. This means you can switch to other email address and set it as your new Apple ID account on your Apple devices. If you’re new to iOS or macOS platform and need some help changing the Apple ID information on your Macbook, I’ve created a simple guide for you to refer to. Read on to learn how to edit or change your Apple ID on a Mac computer.

What’s needed before making any changes

Before making any changes to your Apple ID information, be sure to sign out of all Apple services and devices that use that same Apple ID. 

Ready the information and the tool/device that you want to use to change your Apple ID on and be sure to stay signed in with your Apple ID on that device only.

Different ways to change your Apple ID on your Macbook

Below are applicable methods for you to change or edit Apple ID on your Macbook. Be sure to comply with the main requirements to make sure that the new changes are successfully implemented.

Important note: If the Apple ID that you would like to change is a third-party email address, use another third-party email address including addresses ending with @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com that’s already used as a login alias or alternate Apple ID for your account.

Changing Apple ID using an iPhone

You can use your iPhone to change or edit your Apple ID account information. Just be sure to stay logged into your Apple ID account only on this device then follow these steps whenever you’re all set to make necessary changes:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.

  2. Select your name or Apple ID profile.

  3. Then tap Name, Phone Numbers, Email.

  4. Scroll to Reachable At then tap Edit next to it.

  5. Delete your current Apple ID then tap Continue.

  6. Enter the Apple ID that you want to use.

  7. Tap Next to proceed.

Follow the rest of the onscreen commands to confirm and save the recent changes to your Apple ID credentials.

Changing Apple ID through Apple’s website

Another way to edit your Apple ID account information is through Apple’s account login page. To do this, you can use the browser app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac computer. Also ensure that your device has a stable internet access. Then follow these steps whenever you’re ready to make necessary changes to your Apple ID account information:

  1. Open your browser app.

  2. Enter appleid.apple.com into the address bar to access the website. You will be routed to Apple’s account login page.

  3. Click Sign In then enter your account credentials.

  4. Navigate to the Account section then click Edit.

  5. Next, click the option to Change Apple ID under your Apple ID header.

  6. Enter the Apple ID that you want to use then click Continue.

Note:

  • You won’t be able to change an Apple ID with @icloud.com email address created within the last 30 days. In this case, you’ll have to try again after the 30th day from when the account was first created.

If prompted with a message to confirm, just follow the given instructions to proceed. A confirmation message usually appears if the email address you entered is already an alias or alternate Apple ID that ends with @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com.

You may also be asked to verify your account if you change your Apple ID to another third-party email address. A verification code will then be sent to you at that address. 

To verify your email address, enter the verification code you received from the email into the provided fields. By then you can start using the updated Apple ID.
