iOS 13 Tips And Tricks: How to Enable Dark Mode

Apple finally decided to add a new feature on the new iOS 13 update which was released to the public last September 19, 2019. Alongside with the new iOS 13 update is the Dark Mode feature added to it. It is one of the best iOS 13 features and perhaps has the most noticeable change on your iPhone. 

Dark Mode basically another option for your device display other than Light Mode with light and gray colors to a more less eyes straining hue colors black and gray. Dark Mode feature can be used to pre-installed apps on your iPhone such as calculators, calendars, photo and video apps, settings app as well and many more pre-installed apps on your iPhone. 

Since it is designed to provide a lesser brightness on the display, especially in low lighting conditions or at night while at the same time maintaining its contrast. What’s even more exciting with this new feature is that it is taking full advantage of the OLED Display. OLED or Organic Light Emitting Diode display produces a more realistic picture of the screen display. It uses emitting films that are thin and light allowing it to produce a much brighter light while at the same time using less energy as compared to LED and LCD display. 

Having an iPhone with an OLED display can help extend the battery life of your device. But sad to say, not all iPhone have it. Latest iPhone models such as the iPhone X, iPhone XS and iPhone XS max as well as the newly released iPhone Models 11, Pro Max and Pro all uses the OLED display.  By using the Dark Mode Feature on these phones, it consumes less power of your battery thereby extending its battery life.  

Dark Mode, however, isn’t switched on by default. But right after updating to the latest update to iOS 13, you will be asked if you want to switch to the new Dark Mode. There are two easy ways on how to enable Dark Mode: Via the control center and via Settings app:

Enable Dark Mode Via Control Center:

Step 1: Swipe up from the bottom of the Home screen if you’re using iPhone 8 plus or earlier models. Whereas for iPhone X and later versions, swipe down from the upper right corner to access the Control Center.

Step 2: Once at the Control Center, locate the Display brightness control. An icon that looks like a sun. Tap and hold on that option. 

Step 3: Two options will appear: Dark Mode On and Night Shift Off Until sunset

Step 4: Choose Dark Mode ON

 

Enable Dark Mode via Settings App:

Step 1: Go to Settings from the Home Screen

Step 2: Tap on Display & Brightness

Step 3: Tap and Select Dark to activate Dark Mode.

One important thing about Dark Mode is that you can opt to set this feature to change its display appearance automatically depending on your preferred time of the day. To do this while on the Settings of Display and Brightness, enable Automatic and choose Options. Two options are available to choose from: Sunset to Sunrise and Custom Schedule by scheduling the time when light appearance and dark appearance changes for your convenience.
