iOS 13 iMessage Profile: How To Set Profile Picture And Profile Name

The new update iOS 13 offers a new and improved features in Apple apps. Many are excited as to what these improved features are. The iMessage on Apple Devices is one of the apps that has the most notable new features and improvements on iOS 13. What’s new in iMessage on the new update iOS 13? It now has the ability to set a Profile Picture and set a custom Profile Name on each contact entry for iMessage that was not available with the previous iOS 12 version . 

The ability to set a custom name and Profile Picture on iMessage is considered to be a very useful addition of features. For instance, when you text a phone number via iMessage, your Profile Name  and Profile Picture will appear on the messages of the person you are calling or texting even if you are not in their list of contacts. That way, you friend will no longer reply to ask you, “Who is this?” thus saves time with making conversations. Excited with these new features? Read on below for a step by step guide on how to set Profile Picture and Profile Name . 

One important thing to remember though is that before you proceed with the steps on how to change to iOS 13 iMessage Profile,  make sure that you’ve downloaded the latest iOS 13 taking into consideration that your iPhone also supports the new update iOS 13.

BELOW IS A STEP BY GUIDE ON THE  iOS 13 iMESSAGE PROFILE: HOW TO SET PROFILE PICTURE AND PROFILE NAME 

Set a Profile Picture using photos of your choice from your gallery or you can opt to choose and use a customized Memoji or Animoji as your Profile Picture by doing these steps:

Step 1: Open iMessage/Message App from the Home Screen.

Step 2: Tap on Ellipsis, these are three dots looks like this ••• located in the upper right corner of the screen. 

Step 3: Tap on Edit Name and Photo tab.

Step 4: Next, tap on Edit from the Profile photo 

Step 5: You can choose between Apple Suggestions for Profile photo or the Animoji available. 

Step 6: If you want to use the Suggestions option, you can either set Profile photo by taking a photo right then and there by pressing the camera icon or you may choose from your photo gallery. 

To set Profile Picture using a capture image:

  • Tap on the Camera icon from the Suggestion option.
  • Capture an image.
  • Once image of choice is captured, move and scale the captured image from the camera, make sure correctly crop the image to fit in the circular frame of the Profile Photo. Tap on Use Photo
  • Select your filter of choice to change the  appearance of the captured image.
  • Tap Done to apply changes.

If you want to use the photos from your photo gallery on your device, 

  • Tap on the All Photo option, 
  • Selecting the desired photo from photo albums, 
  • Once desired photo is selected, move and scale photo to adjust its size making sure it fits in the circular frame, then 
  • Tap on Choose. Make necessary changes in appearance if desired by selecting the available filters.
  • Tap Done to apply changes.

Step 6: If you want to choose Animoji or personal Memoji, 

  • Select the Animoji or Memoji  of your choice from the Animoji and Memoji from the choices available .You can also select a pose for the Animoji. Tap on Next. Move and Scale the selected Animoji or Memoji. 
  • Tap on Choose
  • Select a Color for your Animoji Background
  • Tap Done to apply changes. 

Step 8: After every changes made with the Profile Picture, you will notice a prompt if you want “use this photo everywhere? Your Apple ID and My Card in Contacts will be updated with this photo” You can tap on either of the options Not now & Use. 

Step 9: Tap Done again. You will now see your desired Profile Photo. 

Now that you have set your desired Profile Picture, you also have the option to change your Profile Name in iMessage on iOS 13. 

Step 1: Open iMessage/Message App from the Home Screen.

Step 2: Tap on the Ellipsis, those three dots that looks like this ••• located in the upper right corner of the screen. 

Step 3: Tap on Edit Name and Photo tab.

Step 4: Tap on the blank space and input your First and Last name. Note: it is not necessary to use your full name. You can choose what First and last name you want to be seen with your iMessage profile.

Step 5: Tap Done to apply new changes. Your new Profile Name  will be displayed together with your Profile Picture on your iMessage profile. 

Having a Profile Picture and Profile Name  on your iMessage Profile in iOS 13 does not necessarily mean that it will now be available for others to view or to be displayed. For privacy and security purpose, you still have the option to whether or not share your iMessage Profile. For additional information, there are two methods on how to share iMessage profile:

Method 1: 

  • Open the iMessage/Message app
  • Tap on Ellipsis, these are three dots looks like this ••• located in the upper right corner of the screen
  • Tap on Edit Name and Photo option
  • Toggle ON the Name and Photo Sharing option
  • Choose to Share Automatically to Contacts Only (Profile Name and Profile Picture will be shared automatically) or Always ask option (a prompt will appear if you want to share your iMessage Profile to a particular person).
  • Tap Done to apply new changes. 

Method 2: 

  • Go to Settings from the Home Screen
  • Scroll down from the list of apps, and tap on Messages.
  • Look for the Share Name and Photo option, then tap on it. 
  • Choose to Share Automatically for Contacts Only (Profile Name and Profile Picture will be shared automatically to your contacts) or Always ask option (a prompt appears every time to ask  if you want to share your iMessage Profile to a particular person).
  • Tap Done to apply new changes

The availability to Set Profile Picture  and Profile Name for your iMessage profile in dependent on the Apple device that you are using. It should support the new iOS 13 update to be able to have access to this new iMessage feature.
