Problem 1: iPhone 7 can’t delete Instagram app
My Instagram app has been stuck in “waiting …” for about 4-5 days. I’ve deleted other apps thinking I needed more space for the download but i checked and I have more than enough space. I turned my phone off and on, i restarted it, i signed out and back into my Apple ID. I did everything I read online. And nothing. I tried clicking the Instagram app until it wobbles to click the little x to delete it from my home screen and it won’t delete. I tried deleting it from my storage and nothing still. it just stays there. Please help me with this issue. I’d really appreciate it. — Job_hunting2013
Solution: Hi Job_hunting2013. Removing the app is important if you want to fix the issue. If you can’t uninstall , there’s no way for you to test if you can successfully install it. Instagram is a third party app so there are 4 ways to remove it from the system:
- remove an app by tapping and holding its icon
- remove an app via Settings app
- remove an app via iTunes
- remove an app during an update
Since you’ve already tried the first two methods in the list, let’s discuss briefly the third and fourth options for you.
Remove an app via iTunes
This method is no longer applicable if you’ve recently updated your iTunes version to 12.7. Apple recently removed the built-in App Store browser, iOS App Store, and iOS app management from the latest iTunes version (12.7 and up).
If you did not upgrade your iTunes yet though, here’s how to use it to possibly fix your issue. In your iTunes, choose Apps library, then click on the app you wish to delete. Once you’ve highlighted the app, press the Delete button. Once a dialogue asks you to confirm it, pick your preferred option. We suggest that you try removing the app from your iTunes library (Delete from library option).
To view your apps in your library list, click the View menu, then select View As > List. Then, click the Purchase Date header so the list shown will be based on the date when you purchased your apps. Alternatively, you can right click on a blank header in the iTunes list and pick Purchase Date in the menu that shows.
Remove an app during an update
Another good way to uninstall an app is by checking your iTunes’s Update section. This will give you a list of new versions of apps you can download and install. Try to look for your Instagram app in the Update window and delete it. To delete, just right-click on the Instagram icon and pick Delete from Library option. Doing so will remove the app from your iTunes library. Afterwards, sync your iPhone to reflect changes done in your iTunes library.
Problem 2: iPhone 7 can’t restore from an old backup via iTunes
My husband and i bought new iPhones yesterday. He bought the iPhone 7 and i have iPhone 7 Plus. We had iPhone 4s. Because i had many contacts, etc. on my iPhone 4S, i used iTunes to put my Infos etc. on my new phone. But now I regret it and wish I would have it never done and put manually infos etc on my new phone. What can I do to get the iPhone 7 Plus back normal how I bought it with its own new Apps etc. I know I can reset it to factory BUT what then without any backups? Please help. I feel so helpless and I am almost regretting getting a new phone because my husband has no issues because he left his new phone alone and didn’t sync with his old phone. — Manuela
Solution: Hi Manuela. We don’t think we really get the picture of your problem here. Are you having a problem restoring your old backup to your iPhone 7? Are you getting an error message? Please be more specific with the circumstances. What you’re telling us here are vague. Once you’ve provided more specific information about this case, we’ll be more than happy to update this post for you.
For reference, here are the steps on how to restore an old backup to your new iPhone:
- Open iTunes on the Mac or PC that you used to back up your device.
- Connect your iPhone 7 to your computer with a USB cable. If a message asks for your device passcode or to Trust This Computer, follow the onscreen steps.
- Select your iPhone when it appears in iTunes.
- Select Restore Backup in iTunes.
- Look at the date and size of each backup and pick the most relevant.
- Click Restore and wait for the restore time to finish. If asked, enter the password for your encrypted backup.
- Keep your device connected after it restarts and wait for it to sync with your computer. You can disconnect after the sync finishes.
Problem 3: iPhone 7 Apple Wallet app can’t add a ticket pass
My iPhone has issues when using Wallet. I am a season ticket holder to a professional baseball team. Last year after an iOS update, Passbook changed to Wallet. When I attempt to add a ticket (pass) to Wallet, weird things occur. When logging into MyTicket Account via Google Chrome, when I try to add a pass I get an error message “sorry, your Pass cannot be installed to Passbook at this time.” When I try to log into My Ticket Account using Safari, I get “access denied” even though I am using the same ID and password that works when logging via Chrome. I can log in to the account using Firefox, but when I try to add a pass nothing happens. I believe it is my particular iPhone as I can download tickets to Apple Wallet from my account into my wife’s iPhone 6. The ticket account uses oss.ticketmaster.com. But I can download to my iPhone when I use the generic Ticketmaster site for other event (not the baseball team as it does not connect to it). Is there some setting on my iPhone which needs to be changed? Regards. — Wayne Bartosik
Solution: Hi Wayne. Be aware that there are multiple ways on how to add passes in Apple Wallet:
- Using Wallet-enabled apps
- With Mail or Messages
- Through a web browser
- Scanning a barcode
- Sharing through AirDrop
- From your Mac
- Tapping a Wallet notification that you got after paying with Apple Pay at a supported merchant
Make sure that you try some of the items in the list before doing our suggestions below.
The error messages you’re getting are app-specific so you may end up contacting Apple support for more in-depth troubleshooting about them. If our suggestions below won’t help at all, contact Apple for more assistance.
Make sure Apple Wallet is up-to-date
This is the first sensible troubleshooting step for this case, especially since the issue occured after you’ve installed an iOS update. Installing an update for the operating system does not mean apps receive updates as well. We understand Apple devices are set to automatically download and instal app updates but if you did change some settings regarding how your device handles updates, be sure to double check Apple Wallet to see if it has a pending update.
Force close the app
If Apple Wallet app is already updated at this time, the next good thing that you want to do is to restart the app, also known as force closing. This procedure temporarily clears an app’s cache, which may be causing the problem in the first place. To force close an app, follow these steps:
- Double tap the Home button to pull up recently used apps.
- Look for Apple Wallet app by swiping left or right.
- Once you’ve found the app, swipe up on the app’s preview to close it.
Restart your iPhone
Should force closing Apple Wallet won’t make a difference, you must then see what happens if you restart your iPhone. You can do that by pressing and holding the Power (side) button. Once the slider appears, drag the slider to the right to turn the phone off. After the device turns off, press and hold the Top (or Side) button again until you see the Apple logo.
Alternatively, you can also go under Settings>General>Shut Down to turn your phone off.
Log out of your Apple ID
Sometimes, logging out of and logging back in to your Apple ID can fix account issues in iPhones so be sure to do this.
To sign out of your Apple ID, follow these steps:
- Open Settings app.
- Tap iTunes & App Store.
- Tap Sign out.
To sign back in to your Apple ID:
- Open Settings app.
- Tap iTunes & App Store.
- Tap Apple ID.
- Enter your credentials (Apple ID and password).
- Tap Sign in.
- Tap OK.
- Set Account settings again if prompted.
Do a full restore
We don’t know the complete history of your device so all we can do here is speculate and guess what the problem might be. If all the basic troubleshooting steps above won’t work though, you can hasten the troubleshooting process by simply restoring your phone from your old backup, of by setting it up as a new devices after a restore. Here’s how:
- Create a backup of your files. You can do that in a number of ways but the fastest and most effective way is by using iTunes in your PC or Mac. If you don’t want to create a backup at all, you can simply erase everything on the phone by following the steps in this link.
- Connect your iPhone to your computer with the cable that came with your phone.
- We assume you remember your phone’s passcode so simply enter it when you’re prompted for it.
- Select your iPhone once iTunes asks you for the specific device.
- Once you’re in the Summary panel or screen, select the option that will restore your device (Restore).
- Confirm by clicking on Restore button.
- Wait for a few moments while iTunes restores your device to its factory settings. It may also take some time if iTunes will need to install an updated operating system version.
- After this factory reset, all software settings should be restored to their defaults.
Contact Apple support
If the same situation happen after doing our suggestions above, there must be something wrong with your device that prevents it from working with the current version of Apple Wallet app. Be sure to let Apple know of the situation so they can give you first hand information on what to do.
