How to close apps on iPhone XS Max

With the defunct physical Home button, Apple turned all of the new iPhone’s essential functions into some intuitive gestures. This denotes that all of the iPhone’s essential functions are carried out by simple swipes of the screen. Now, if you’re wondering about how apps are closed on the new iPhone XS Max, simply refer to the elaborated procedures below.

When you open an app on your iPhone, chances are that it remains opened and running in the background unless you trigger it to close. The iPhone XS and XS Max both come with iOS 12 as built-in platform, thus the process of closing apps are also the carried out in the same way.

  1. Navigate to the Home screen. The iPhone XS Max Home screen can now be accessed by swiping up from the very bottom of the display where the thin bar is located.
  2. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and then pause slightly in the middle of the screen. Doing so will open the App Switcher or multitasking view that contains different apps cards or previews or the apps you’ve recently opened and used but not closed.
  3. Swipe right or left to locate the app you want to close.
  4. Then close the app by swiping up on its preview.

To access the App Switcher faster, you’ll need to swipe up at a 45-degree angle. This will ensure you get it right. It may take a few times for you to get it right so just have patience and keep trying. At first, you can exaggerate the movements at the cost of speed if necessary. Once you get used to it, the gesture becomes so easy.

You can also close more than one app (up to 3 apps) on your iPhone XS Max at a time. To get this done, simply follow the same steps to launch the App Switcher or multitasking view. Once the app previews or app cards show up, you can close two or three apps at once with these steps:

  1. Place your two fingers on the two app cards and then swipe up to close them. Doing so closes two apps on your iPhone XS Max at once.
  2. To close three apps at once, move the primary app to the right to show the third app card and then place your three fingers on the app cards to close them.

Closing apps on your iPhone is only recommended when apps are acting up or not working as intended. This helps refresh the app and gives it a fresh start. As Apple stated previously, closing apps doesn’t really help improve battery life as these apps aren’t generally using up the phone’s resources. Nevertheless, you still can do so for the sake of keeping your Apps Switcher tidy.
