Troubleshooting iPhone SE with cellular data that stopped working

Restart your iPhone SE after making changes then see if cellular data is already working as intended.

Third workaround: Check and install carrier update.

There are two types of software update for your iPhone — a software update (iOS) and a carrier settings update. Usually carrier settings updates will automatically occur during a software update. However, if they don’t then you can just install them manually instead.

Carrier settings update makes changes to your iPhone settings including voicemail, calling, messaging, data, and network in line with the new iOS firmware.

  1. Tap Settings from Home.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap About.
  4. A carrier settings update notification will show up in a few seconds if an carrier settings update is available. If you see this message, tap Update.

Wait until the update is completely installed on your device. And when it does, restart your iPhone.

Fourth workaround: Reset network settings.

If ever the iOS 11 update has messed up your network settings and caused cellular data to have some errors, then you can correct the problem by performing a network settings reset. Please note though that this reset will erase your network information including your Wi-Fi networks and passwords, along with server settings. Fifth workaround: Restore iOS through iTunes recovery mode.

Alternatively, you can use iTunes on your computer and reset your iPhone SE in recovery mode to fix more complex software errors that might have prevented cellular data from working properly on your device. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Connect your iPhone SE to your computer. You can use either Windows or Mac computer for this.
  2. Open iTunes on your computer. Be sure to use the latest version of iTunes software to avoid system conflicts.
  3. Wait for iTunes to recognize your device.
  4. While your iPhone is connected to iTunes, force it to restart by pressing and holding the Home and Power buttons at the same time and then release both buttons when the Recovery Mode screen appears. Do not release the buttons when the Apple logo appears as you’ll need to enter recovery mode.
  5. When you see the option to Restore or Update, select Restore. Doing so will trigger iTunes to instigate download software for your device. If the download takes more than 15 minutes, your iPhone will exit recovery mode. And if this happens, you will need to go back to the step to enter recovery mode again.

Wait until the iOS recovery mode restore is finished then proceed with the initial setup.
