What to do if your iPhone X can’t be detected by computer

Problem #1: What to do if your iPhone X can’t be detected by computer

Last couple days my iPhone X suddenly blacks out as if it’s consumed all battery. But then it appears at home screen with battery remaining. Also I have low data storage space, photos won’t appear, some apps like instagram doesn’t even open. I have never done backups with Itunes, neither remember if the IOS was ever updated or maybe like once since I own it, always clicked “remind me later”. So then I tried to free some space and deleted spotify app. Then I performed a force restart (home&power) to restart the device in order to facilitate the “refresh” app deletion and new storage space recognition and now the phone shuts down after apple logo appears like for 10-15 seconds and then stays shut off. Tried to connect to a computer to free additional space but it doesn’t recognize the phone. Please advise how to proceed, the phone had previous issues with available space, like a couple of times to the point the phone doesn’t show contacts, photos, and even locked to the point it asked to activate it (via wifi or connected to itunes). The difference that time was that the phone was recognized by the computer and accessed the internal memory to backup photos , delete and then when space was available the phone was up again. Solution: Before you do any troubleshooting, it’s highly recommended that you back your data app to avoid losing them. If your computer can’t detect your iPhone at all, then you can back important files to the cloud. Aside from your iCloud storage, you can also make use of free third party cloud services like that of Google, Microsoft, among many others.

Once you’ve created your backups, you can then follow the troubleshooting steps below.

Reset all settings

The first troubleshooting step to do is to see if all issues in your iPhone X will go away after you reset all settings. This simulates the effects of a factory reset without actually deleting personal data. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Tap Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Scroll to and tap Reset.
  4. Select Reset All Settings from the given options.
  5. If prompted, enter your passcode to continue.
  6. Then tap Reset all settings again to confirm.

Factory reset

Should nothing change after you reset all settings, the next good thing to do is to wipe the phone completely. You can do that by doing a factory reset. If you haven’t tried it before, follow the steps below:

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Scroll to and tap Reset.
  4. Select the option to Erase All Content and Settings.
  5. If prompted, enter your device passcode to continue.
  6. Then tap the option to confirm factory reset.

Restore

Factory reset is usually a precursor to doing a full restore. If the problems are still there after the phone has been wiped, try to restore your device using an older backup, not necessarily the one you created recently (if you managed to create a backup in iTunes anyway).

Below are the general steps on how to do a full restore:

  1. Create a backup of your files. You can do that in a number of ways but the fastest and most effective way is by using iTunes in your PC or Mac. If you don’t want to create a backup at all, you can simply erase everything on the phone by following the steps in this link.
  2. Connect your iPhone to your computer with the cable that came with your phone.
  3. We assume you remember your phone’s passcode so simply enter it when you’re prompted for it.
  4. Select your iPhone once iTunes asks you for the specific device.
  5. Once you’re in the Summary panel or screen, select the option that will restore your device (Restore).
  6. Confirm by clicking on Restore button.
  7. Wait for a few moments while iTunes restores your device to its factory settings. It may also take some time if iTunes will need to install an updated operating system version.
  8. After this factory reset, all software settings should be restored to their defaults.

Install drivers

One most likely reason why your computer is not recognizing your iPhone is due to incorrect, corrupted, or lack of drivers. Make sure that you install the right drivers. If it’s a Mac, it should already have the built-in drivers to detect your iPhone but it may still need the latest OS updates. Make sure that your computer’s operating system is up-to-date. The same general requirements should be done if you have a non-Mac computer.

Problem #2: How to fix iPhone X Bluetooth issue: won’t connect to car Bluetooth after an update

“Speak screen” feature [settings]-[general]-[accessibility]-[speech]-[Speak Screen] no longer plays audio when connected to car via usb.  when unplugged audio plays through phone. Dock connector volume appears to be disabled when connected. Same result with youtube app. Dock connector volume control disabled and no audio when connected.  Other youtube viewers work perfectly. my ios version is 11.4.1 – these features all worked flawlessly under 11.4. My daughters’ iphone x with version 11.4 still works perfectly when connected to the same car using the same cables and same apps.  Speak Screen and youtube.

Solution: The problem is most probably not your phone but with your car Bluetooth system. An issue like this happens all the time because of incompatibility. The new iOS update must have rendered the two systems incompatible. Try to check with your car dealership if there’s a way to update the Bluetooth in your car. Smartphones receive more updated Bluetooth system so older Bluetooth devices like those in deployed in vehicles may become incompatible over time. Unfortunately, this is a fact of digital life and once it occurs, the least updated system must keep or else be left out. Because there’s no way to downgrade your phone’s Bluetooth, you can either accept the reality as it is, or try to upgrade or replace your in-vehicle Bluetooth system. This is hardly ideal of course but we’re afraid you have very limited options on this one.

Problem #3: What to do if iPhone X screen has become unresponsive after a drop

I dropped my iPhone X on the floor, and now the keypad isn’t working when I attempt to enter my 4-digit security code to login.  The only key on the keypad that works is the “0.” When I attempt to enter my passcode; in fact, the screen does not seem to be working anymore.  I receive notifications still, but swiping doesn’t work either, and I’m unable to access anything.

Solution: The accidental drop must have damaged the digitizer. This is one of the components of the screen assembly that captures your touches and converts them into digital signals. If the screen has become unresponsive, then there’s no way you can fix the problem by doing some software tweaks. A physically damaged component has to repaired or replaced.
