It’s a bit odd and rare for new and powerful devices to encounter power issues. Nonetheless, it can happen just like what has occurred to some owners of the new iPhone X handset. The main issue that’s tackled in this post is on the iPhone X that is charging very slowly. Read on and find out what could have possibly caused Apple’s latest iPhone flagship to succumb into such trouble and what options do end-users have to rectify and get their iPhone X to charge as fast it should.
There are two main factors to consider when dealing with slow charging issues. First is a software glitch that’s inflicting trouble on the iPhone’s charging system. And second is a damaged component like a bad battery or charging equipment in use. In other words, you are either dealing with a software or hardware issue in this case. If it’s a hardware issue, then your iPhone X likely requires service. But in the case where the software is to blame, there are a few workarounds for you to try to fix the problem on your end and get your new iPhone X to charge normally as intended. How to troubleshoot iPhone X that’s charging so slow
Before you troubleshoot, be sure to do these first two requisites:
- Verify and ensure that your charging equipment is working. Check the USB adapter and charging cable for any visible signs of damage like breakage or bent prongs. Use of damaged charging accessories is strictly prohibited for safety purposes. Contact your device carrier or Apple Support to request for a replacement charger especially if your device is still under warranty.
- Use alternative charger, charging port, power source. Doing so can help you isolate whether or not the problem is on the charging equipment you are currently using. If you suspect that the charger is at fault, then you can try another compatible charger. You can also try to switch between charging ports or power sources to make sure the one you’re using is working. If you are using a wireless charger, you can try to switch to wired charging and then see if your iPhone X is charging faster or using the wired setup. If you have other spare wireless charger, then you can switch to the other wireless charger to see if there’s any difference.
Calibrate the battery.
Battery calibration is recommended to be done three times a month as part of battery optimization routine. The entire process involves draining, re-charging, draining, and then charging the battery full again. If you haven’t already, you may give it a shot. Here’s how it’s done:
- Use your iPhone until it powers off or when the battery is completely drained.
- Turn it back on and then let it turn off.
- When your iPhone is powered off completely, connect it to a charger and then allow it to charge until the charging indicator or battery icon says it has reached a 100 percent.
- Disconnect your phone from the charger then turn it on.
- If the battery life does not reach 100 percent, plug it back into the charger and allow it to charge longer until it is completely charged at 100 percent.
- Unplug the charger when the battery is full.
- Restart your iPhone.
- Then start using your phone again as you normally do until it runs out of power and turns off.
- Charge it again until the battery gets fully charged.
- Turn on your phone again and then use it as usual.
Remove/disable suspicious apps
If your iPhone X suddenly begins to charge very slowly after installing new app, then that new app is most likely the culprit. Either it’s causing massive battery draining or ruining the iPhone’s charging system. Should this be the case, the best possible remedy is to remove or uninstall the suspected app from your iPhone so as to make it charge normally again. Here’s how to uninstall apps on your iPhone X:
- Slightly press and hold on the app icon until the app icons jiggle and the X shows up on top of each app.
- Then tap on the X from the suspected app you want to remove.
Alternatively, you can navigate to your iPhone X settings menu and then uninstall the suspected app from there.
To do so, head over to Settings-> General-> iPhone Storage menu. From this menu, tap the app you want to remove then select the option then select the option to Offload App or Delete App.
When you’re done removing suspicious apps, reboot your iPhone X then try to charge it again to see if what you did yields to a positive outcome. Also, do not use your iPhone while charging.
Software updates bring in new features and enhanced features for iOS optimization. They also contain bug fixes to address existing issues affecting various iPhone models. Assuming that the slow charging issue you’re dealing with your iPhone X is inflicted by a software bug, then installing a new iOS update will likely fix it. If you haven’t already, check for available software update.
To do so, go to Settings-> General-> Software Update.
An update notification will show up if a new update is available for your device. Don’t forget to backup your important data before you download and install new software update for safekeeping purposes.
Reset all settings.
Resetting all settings on your iPhone X can also be a potential solution especially if the problem has something to do with incorrect settings or misconfigured power options on your device. These settings can be modified manually and automatically. If you haven’t made any changes to your device settings but happened to install new software update prior to the onset of the charging problem on your iPhone X, then it’s possible that the new update automatically overrides your current settings, which eventually inflicting trouble to the charging system. In this case, you can potentially fix the problem by resetting all settings on your iPhone X. This process will restore your iPhone settings to defaults without affecting any of your iPhone data so you don’t have to worry about data loss. Just be sure to take note of your Wi-Fi passwords as they will be erased in the process.
To reset all settings on your iPhone X, go to Settings-> General-> Reset-> Reset All Settings. If prompted, enter your device passcode then confirm all settings reset.
Reboot your iPhone X afterwards then charge it again and see if that fixes everything.
