In fact, Apple has promptly released the first update (iOS 11.0.1) on the 26th of the same month with fixes to a few known problems from iOS 11 including changes to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings. What to do when you lost access to wireless Internet after updating iOS on your iPhone 7?
Before you begin to troubleshoot, verify and ensure that your Wi-Fi settings are properly configured in the first place. Software updates particularly major firmware versions may override your current settings or automatically alter the current system configuration on your device. Having said that, it is possible that the new update has turned off Wi-Fi or other network options on your iPhone. As a result, you’ve suddenly lost access to Wi-Fi internet. And in that case, all you have to do is revert the changes manually or re-enable Wi-Fi on your iPhone either through the Settings menu or Control Center. But if that doesn’t work, then you may go ahead and try the subsequent workarounds to get your Wi-Fi running smoothly again. Many people have found remedy from any of these methods so you might as well take your chances and give them a try.
First workaround: Check for new iOS update to install.
Apple typically rolls out minor firmware updates to address existing issues and bugs brought forth by the most recent update. That said, don’t forget to check for any available updates.
To do so, go to Settings-> General-> Software Update. You will see a notification if an update is available.
If there is, then create a backup of your device through iCloud or iTunes. Then follow the onscreen instructions to proceed with the update download and installation. But if there is none, then you can move on to the next applicable solutions.
Second workaround: Forget your wireless network and rejoin.
Forgetting the wireless network can help refresh your wireless connection. It’s like letting your device connect to the wireless network for the first time. Make sure you are in range with the wireless network that you want to forget.
- Tap to open the Settings app.
- Tap Wi-Fi.
- Tap the information (i) icon next to your wireless network.
- Select the option to Forget This Network.
- If prompted, tap Forget to confirm you want to forget the network.
Reboot your iPhone and then rejoin to your wireless network.
- Tap to open the Settings app.
- Tap Wi-Fi then wait for your iPhone to scan for available Wi-Fi network in range.
- Tap to select your wireless network.
- If prompted, enter the wireless passcode to proceed.
- Tap Join.
Wait until you have successfully joined and are connected to the wireless network. Then test to see if Wi-Fi is already working fine.
Third workaround: Reset all settings on your iPhone 7.
To make sure that problem is not due to any misconfigured or incorrect settings, then try to reset all settings on your iPhone. As the name implies, this will reset all the settings on your iPhone to defaults but without affecting any of your iPhone data, documents, apps, or media files.
To do so, head over to Settings-> General-> Reset-> Reset Network Settings.
Your iPhone will reboot when the network settings have completely reset.
Fourth workaround: Reset iPhone 7 to factory defaults.
Unlike the previous reset, a factory reset will erase all contents and settings from your device. This means completely wiping your iOS device. Bugs and glitches that might have affected Wi-Fi functions on your iPhone are likewise wiped clean from doing so. While this may offer you a higher chance of fixing the problem, a factory reset should only be considered as the last resort especially when there’s a serious error on your iPhone system.

- Tap Settings.

Fifth workaround: Restore to prior iOS backup (downgrade iOS).
You may opt to restore from a previous iOS backup (if you were lucky enough to have one) and if none of the prior methods is able to fix your iPhone 7 Wi-Fi problem. There are three types of iOS restore you may opt to use in this case including the standard restore backup option, recovery mode restore, and DFU mode restore. The last option gives you a higher chance of obtaining ultimate solution especially if what you’re dealing with is a more intricate issue with iOS. For starters, here’s how a DFU mode restore is carried out on your iPhone 7:
- Power off your iPhone.
- Connect your iPhone to your computer. You can use a Windows or Mac computer with a later OS and latest version of iTunes software installed.
- Open iTunes on your computer.
- On your iPhone, press and hold down the Power button for about 3 seconds.
- Then press and hold down the Volume Down button while still holding down the Power button. Keep holding these buttons for 10 seconds. If the Apple logo appears, it means that you’ve held the buttons too long and that you’ll have to start again.
- Release the Power button but keep holding the Volume Down button for about 5 seconds. If you see the Plug into iTunes screen, it means that you have held the button too long and will need to start again.
If the screen remains black, it means that you have successfully entered DFU mode. At this point, iTunes will show an alert message that says it has detected your iPhone and will allow it to be restored from scratch or previous backup. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the iOS restore.
A DFU mode restore puts your device into a state where it is able to communicate with iTunes on a computer and can be restored without activating the iOS or bootloader. This would be necessary if the operating system is totally borked
- Update the router firmware. It’s possible that the recent update made your device incompatible with your router’s firmware. This means that updating the router’s firmware might be necessary for both devices to blend well.
- Enable/disable other connectivity features. Aside from Wi-Fi, you can also try to enable or disable other connectivity features on your iPhone 7 like Bluetooth, Airplane Mode, and Wi-Fi Assist. Other people have found luck by this trick so you might as well try it too.
- To enable/disable Bluetooth, open the Control Center or go to Settings-> Bluetooth and then toggle the switch to turn the feature on for a few seconds and then tap to turn it off again.
- To enable/disable Airplane Mode, go to Settings-> Airplane Mode and then tap the switch to turn it on and then tap to turn Airplane mode again.
- To enable/disable Wi-Fi Assist, go to Settings-> Cellular-> Wi-Fi Assist and then tap the switch to turn the feature on and then off again.
- Power cycle your router. Often times, rebooting the wireless router immediately fixes wireless problems on your iPhone like Wi-Fi drops and no connection. If you haven’t already, then do so. Here’s how it’s done:
- Power off the wireless router.
- Unplug the AC adapter from the power source and leave it like that for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
- Plug it back in to power after the elapsed time then turn it on again.
- Wait until all the light indicators on your router are stable.
- Restart your iPhone 7 then try to see if Wi-Fi is working on your iOS device afterwards.
Escalate the problem
Usually, post-update issues are resolved by downgrading or restoring to a prior iOS version that’s more stable or flawless. But if you haven’t found no luck from doing so, then you can seek more recommendations from your device carrier or Apple Support. Just let them know that you’ve exhausted all possible means on your end but to no avail.
