How To Fix Common iPhone 6 Plus Problems [Part 2]

Welcome to the second part in our series of troubleshooting articles dedicated to the iPhone 6 Plus. While this model is the latest that Apple has released that comes with several new features it also has its fair share of issues. In this latest installment, we will tackle some of the issues new users are facing with it. Some of the issues we will be covering today are minor in nature that a simple reboot of the phone is all that is needed to fix it. Other issues though require more detailed troubleshooting steps to be done.

iPhone 6 Plus Not Working After Restore Got Interrupted

Problem: Here’s my situation, recently got the iPhone 6 plus 128GB, an unfortunately it fell out of hand and landed on it’s back (with a strong case on), it got no dents or anything. I picked it up and it was off, i tried to turn it on, it didn’t turn on. I connected it to iTunes and it requested me to restore it, after a few minutes a message saying restore error, I do not remember what it said exactly. Now my iPhone 6 plus is not working and iTunes is not recognizing it! A friend told me that it got “Bricked”, i hope it didn’t. please help me.

Solution: It is important to get the exact error number since this will help you determine the next steps that you should take. If no specific error number was displayed then you can follow the troubleshooting steps below.

  • Get the latest version of iTunes on your computer.

  • Install available updates for your Mac. If you have a PC, you can get PC software updates from the Microsoft website.

  • You might need to update, change, disable, or uninstall security software that’s causing an issue.

  • Keep only your iOS device, keyboard, and mouse plugged in directly to your computer.

  • Turn off your computer and your device. Then turn them on again.

  • Update or restore your iOS device again.

If you are getting an error number then Apple has provided the steps that you should take to resolve the specific error. Based on what number is displayed on your phone the issue could either be caused by

  • network

  • security software

  • USB connection

  • hardware

  • outdated or modified software

iPhone 6 Plus Camera Has Dust Inside

Problem: I’ve owned an iPhone 6 Plus since October and just recently realized that my unit is not as flawless as I originally thought. While taking a picture of a sunset I noticed a bright light spot on the screen that wasn’t the sun and it would appear eveytime there was direct light to the camera lens. When I got home I took a picture indoors of the ceiling and with the lightbulb on, and again a light circle appeared on the screen and the picture. I checked the camera under a magnifying glass and I saw a white dust particle inside of the camera lens that was sticking to the sapphire glass and almost near the center of the camera unit, so anytime there is light directed to the camera, the dust would absorb it and it would show on the pictures. In order to get rid of it, I would need to open up my iPhone and get everything out until I reach the camera module, but that is a solution I don’t really want to do. Do you think that if I take it to the Apple Store, my phone would qualify for a replacement because that dust came from the factory since I’m very careful with my devices and I haven’t even put my phone once in my pocket to think it would be lint that somehow got inside. Thanks in advance!

Solution: You should definitely bring your phone to the Apple store and have it checked. It is most likely that you will get a replacement phone. Whatever you do, do not open your phone and try to fix it yourself. This is already a hardware issue and if you open your phone then you void any warranty that it may have.

iPhone 6 Plus Low Call Volume

Problem: I recently purchased an iPhone 6 Plus and I noticed that the volume when on a call is very, very low. I turned the volume all the way up and there is still no improvement. When I had my iPhone 5S, I was able to actually turn down the volume because it was loud. Is anyone else having this problem? Device: iPhone 6 Plus , Capacity: 128GB , Color: Black/Space Grey

Phone volume is normal when on a call through Speakerphone or BT connection. Volume level problem is only experienced when using the ear piece.

Solution: The first thing you should check is if the original plastic film covering th phone is still present. This film actually muffles the sound from the earspeaker. Try to remove it if you still have it then check if the issue appears.

Th next thing that you should do is to restart your phone.

  • Press and hold the Power/Sleep button (located on the upper-right edge of device).

  • Slide the Power switch right, to power off the device.

  • Once the device has completed powering off, press the Power/Sleep button to power on the device.

  • Slide the Unlock switch right, to unlock the device.

If the restart fails to resolve the issue then you should reset your phone.

  • Press and hold the Power/Sleep button (located on the upper-right edge of device). and the Home/Menu button simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds.

  • When prompted with the Slide to unlock screen, ignore and continue to hold the Power/Sleep button and the Home/Menu button.

  • The device powers off. Continue to hold the Power/Sleep button and the Home/Menu buttons.

  • When the Apple logo appears, release the Power/Sleep button and the Home/Menu button. This process may take several minutes.

Once you have accomplished all of the steps above and the issue is still present then you should consider bringing you phone to an Apple Store for checking.

iPhone 6 Plus Erratic Touch Screen Behavior

Problem: I recently started noticing some erratic touch behavior on my screen, it’s as if I have a possessed phone such as taps that I did not make, or swipes (up/down/left/right) as well. The spotlight randomly swipes down, or the notification center (it seems like a consistent swipe down behavior but at different locations). I couldn’t swipe left yesterday to unlock my phone, and sometimes hangs and only locking/unlocking can fix the unresponsiveness. Moreover, random tappings affect games and apps such as whatsapp, where it goes to the previous page due to a top left page tap, and then again on the edit button, then starts randomly scrolling up and down and tapping random parts of the screen. This is quite frustrating, I tried formatting and starting the phone as a new one and only installed Whatsapp, but the problem persisted, albeit at fewer occurrences. Now I noticed the problem again even though I’m on iOS 8.1, with only apps, music, and photos synced back from iTunes. What is happening ? How can I get this fixed ?

Solution: If the touch screen of your phone is not working porperly then follow the troubleshooting steps below as suggested by Apple.

  • If you have a case or screen protector on your device, try removing it.

  • Clean the screen with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth.

  • Avoid using the device while wearing gloves, with wet hands, or immediately after applying hand lotion.

  • Restart your phone ( Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears, Drag the slider to turn your device completely off, After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.)

  • Reset your phone (You should reset your device as a last resort and only if you can’t restart it, To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.)

If the above steps fail to resolve the issue then you should bring your phone to the nearest Apple Store for checking.

iPhone 6 Plus Slow Charging

Problem: My new iphone 6+ very very slow charging. 6% increasing in 1 hour charging.

Solution: There are different ways to charge your phone. The first is using the wall charger and the second is by using the USB port of a computer. The first method charges your phone quickly while the second method is a slow way of charging your phone.

Make sure that you are using the original wall charger that came with your phone when charging it. You should also try charging your phone in a different wall outlet as well as try using a different cable and wall charger.

If the issue still persists then try resetting your phone by pressing and holding both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo. If tat this point the issue is still not resolved then it is best to bring your phone to the nearest Apple Store for further checking.

iPhone 6 Plus Has Green Dot When Taking Videos/Photos

Problem: I woke up this morning to take a picture of the beautiful sunrise and to my surprise I noticed a green dot appearing on my screen. I cleaned my lens and still happening. I tried using the video and still the same. It only happens when the sun is in the background. This is annoying because I like to take pictures of the the sunrise or sunset. Anyone having the same issue on their iPhone 6 plus?

Solution: When videos or photos against a strong light source you will often see a a flare, haze, or spot in your video or photo. To avoid these unexpected light effects you should move your phone to change the angle of the light or shield the lens with your hand.

iPhone 6 Plus Boot Loop

Problem: Hello. I recently was talking with FaceTime with my iPhone 6 Plus charging (the battery was very low). I unplugged it for a few seconds so I could connect it to my Mac, but it shutted down. Now it keeps doing the same thing: Boot up, Shut down, Show battery icon with red, and it repeats. Well, it didn’t start doing this long ago, only a few minutes. What should I do? Leave it for a few hours or do something? Please help quick!

Solution: Try connecting your phone to a wall charger first and let it charge for at least 30 minutes then try turning it on.

If the problem persists then follow the troubleshooting steps below.

  • Connect your phone to a computer with the latest version of iTunes

  • Reset your phone by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons simultaneously until you see the Apple logo appear—but DO NOT LET GO yet.

  • Enter DFU Mode: While continuing to hold down the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons, wait until the Apple logo disappears, then after 3 seconds, ONLY let go of the Sleep/Wake button while continuing to hold the Home button. Keep holding down on the Home button until you see iTunes detect it.

  • Restore your phone

  • Setup your phone as new or restore from backup.

iPhone 6 Plus Stuck In Headphone Mode

Problem: Went to use my phone today and it seems to be stuck in headphone mode. I have tried resetting and removing/reinserting the earphones. But this has not fixed it. The internal speaker works and the ringer works, its just the earpiece / mic function.

Solution: If resetting your phone and removing/reinserting the earphones does not work then this could already be a hardware related issue. Your best option is to bring the phone to an authorized service center for checking.

iPhone 6 Plus Gets Hot During Sync

Problem: I have a shiny new 6+. While syncing for the first time I noticed it got quit warm. Googling around, there seems to be chatter about this. Mostly just talking about it. Any thoughts about this?

Solution: If it is the first time for your phone to sync then it is not unusual for it to get hot. This is because a lot of processing is going on. You should be concerned if your phone still gets hot after the sync process has been completed.
