Its been a while since the Canadian smart phone manufacturer, BlackBerry, released its new BlackBerry 10 platform to the market. The company had very high hopes of the platform, but it seems to be not working out as well as expected. The company had said that it would launch the platform with good core apps. We do have most of the necessary apps on the new platforms, but we are still missing out on some of the fun.
For example, Instagram has very clearly said that it is not interested in developing a native version of its app for the time being. But the company may release a version of the app in case the platform gets a good market share. And today, another company has joined the list, and that is Netflix.
You may say that you had heard rumors earlier that Netflix and BlackBerry were in talks about bringing Netflix to the new BlackBerry 10 operating system. There was indeed such a rumor. But that was very clearly denied by Netflix in a cryptic tweet from the company’s official Twitter account.
And today, sources which are familiar about the situation and close to the company have said that the company is not at all interested in doing anything the new BlackBerry 10 operating system. The company is not planning on developing a new app for the platform, nor is it any much interested in porting its Android app to the new platform. The reason for this is expected to be the little profit that the app might bring compared to the streaming cost and development cost the company would have to invest in developing an app for BlackBerry.
BlackBerry spokesman Alex Kinsella said regarding the lack of Netflix that “at this time, it’s in Netflix’s court to join the excitement around BlackBerry 10 — we hope they choose to bring a BlackBerry 10 experience to their customers. We’d love to have them.”
