While the result of the AP survey looks very concerning, Microsoft got a huge boost after one of the most famous personalities in the world expressed her interest in getting the brand new device.
Oprah Winfrey, who is arguably considered as the queen of product endorsement, added the Microsoft Surface tablet to her “Oprah’s Favorite Things 2012” list, comparing the device to the famous Mercedes-Benz.
Oprah said: “The Surface, Microsoft’s first tablet, feels like a Mercedes-Benz to me, people! The full-size keyboard built right into the cover makes work easy, the very smart kickstand makes watching a movie or Skyping a friend a delight, the less than a pound-and-a-half weight makes a great alternative to a laptop, and the many other features make it fun for work and play. Now, that’s a wowser!”
To add more spice on the “endorsement” made by Oprah, the Surface RT tablet is the only computer-themed item on the list that also includes Jetson E-Bike, Bougainvillea Bangles, India Hicks Diamond Necklace, Bose VideoWave II HD TV, and Beats by Dr. Dre Powerbeats.
The impact of Oprah’s support will be known in the next few months, but it will surely be a welcome endorsement for Microsoft, who is reportedly shedding $1.5 billion for the marketing of Windows 8-themed devices.
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer earlier said: “We will do more marketing and better marketing for Windows 8 systems, for Windows Phones, and for Surfaces. You will see our best work, and you will not be able to pick up a magazine, go to the internet, or turn on a television set without seeing one of our ads, really quite frequently.”
