iPhone 6 Plus Microphone Not Working

One of the most important components of your phone that’s needed when making a call is the microphone. The #Apple #iPhone6Plus for example has a microphone at the bottom which is used by most applications, a front microphone which is used for calls, and a rear microphone. While the phone is known to be great when used to make calls there are instances when you can’t be heard by the other party. This is what we will be trying to resolve today.

iPhone 6 Plus Microphone Only Working With Speaker

Problem: My microphone works with my speaker phone but it doesn’t work with my talk to text. I can plug in my ear buds & it works! But not without.

Solution: Try recording a voice clip using the voice recorder app. Playback the recorded file and check if you can hear anything. If you can’t hear your voice then this may be a hardware related issue possibly caused by a defective microphone.

If you can hear your voice then try to follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.

Restart your device

  • Press and hold the Power button  until ‘slide to power off’ appears then release.
  • Slide the Power switch right.
  • With the device powered off, press and hold the Power button until the Apple logo appears then release.
  • Check if the issue still occurs.

If the issue persists then connect your phone to iTunes and backup its data. From here you should try to restore your phone software then setup your phone as a new device. Check if the issue still occurs.

If the above steps fail to resolve the problem then this may already be a hardware related issue. I suggest you bring your phone to the Apple Store for checking.

iPhone 6 Plus Muffled Calls

Problem: Hello, Just started yesterday but when I try to speak to someone on the phone they either can’t hear me or they state it’s muffled.  However the same people can hear me if I’m on speaker phone, using my headphones, in the car, etc. I’ve tried your recommendations of turning phone off, etc and the problem persists.  Have you heard of similar issues and any potential solutions?  Not really looking forward to attending an Apple Store and paying through the roof.  Thanks for your time

Solution: Try to check if some dirt or debris is stuck in the bottom microphone hole. If you spot any then clean it as this block the sound from reaching the microphone. You should also try taking out the phone case (if you have one installed) then make a call.

If the issue persists then I suggest you backup your phone data then restore your phone software. Make sure to set up your phone as a new device. Immediately check if the issue still persists. If it does then I suggest  you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
