Experiencing poor signal strength or losing your internet connection on an iPhone X? You’re not alone. Some iPhone X users have reported issues with signal reliability, dropped connections, or total failure to connect after an update. Whether your issue is cellular or Wi-Fi-related, there are steps you can take to get things back on track.
Here’s how to fix weak signal and internet connection problems on your iPhone X.
1. Reset Network Settings
If you suddenly lose access to mobile data or Wi-Fi, resetting your network settings is the best place to start.
- Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset.
- Tap Reset Network Settings.
- Enter your passcode if prompted, then confirm.
This erases saved Wi-Fi passwords, VPN settings, and Bluetooth pairings—but it often clears up weird network bugs, especially after an update.
2. Update iOS and Carrier Settings
If you haven’t already, make sure both your system software and carrier settings are up to date.
- Go to Settings > General > Software Update.
- If an update is available, tap Download and Install.
Also check for carrier updates:
- Go to Settings > General > About.
- If a carrier update is available, you’ll see a prompt to install it.
3. Toggle Airplane Mode
This quick trick often helps refresh your network connection.
- Swipe down from the top-right to open Control Center.
- Tap the Airplane Mode icon to turn it on.
- Wait 10 seconds, then turn it off and wait for signal to return.
4. Remove and Reinsert SIM Card
For persistent cellular issues:
- Power off your iPhone.
- Remove the SIM card using a SIM eject tool or paperclip.
- Wait 10 seconds, reinsert it, and turn your phone back on.
Make sure your SIM isn’t damaged or loose in the tray.
5. Switch Between LTE/5G and 3G (If Available)
Sometimes your iPhone can struggle with signal handoffs between newer and older network types.
- Go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Voice & Data.
- Try switching to a different option (for example, from LTE to 3G) and see if the signal improves.
6. Reset All Settings
If you suspect more than just a network glitch, try resetting all settings.
- Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset.
- Tap Reset All Settings and enter your passcode.
This keeps your data, but resets system-wide preferences like display settings, network options, and privacy settings.
7. Do a Factory Reset (Last Resort)
If nothing else has worked and your iPhone X is still dropping signal or won’t connect online:
- Back up your data to iCloud or iTunes first.
- Then go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings.
- Follow the prompts to fully reset your iPhone.
Set it up as new and test signal strength before restoring your backup.
Can a Modem Difference Cause Signal Issues?
Some iPhone X models use different cellular modems (Qualcomm vs. Intel). While there are subtle differences in performance based on signal strength and carrier frequency, both modem types meet Apple’s performance standards. If your issue is truly hardware-related, Apple will only act if the problem is reproducible in-store or confirmed during diagnostics.
If you’re unable to show the issue at the Genius Bar, insist on submitting your device for deeper testing through Apple Support.
