Sound issues on your iPhone 6 can be super frustrating, especially when everything else seems to work fine. If your calls are silent, your microphone isn’t working, or your audio skips while streaming, you’re not alone. Here’s a detailed guide to help you troubleshoot and fix these problems.
iPhone 6 Has No Sound During Phone Calls
Problem:
Mike’s daughter’s iPhone 6 works fine for music, apps, FaceTime, and even Wi-Fi calls — but there’s no sound during regular phone calls. Swapping SIM cards didn’t help, and both Apple and T-Mobile pointed fingers at each other.
Solution:
This looks like a software bug in the Phone app or iOS itself. Try these steps:
- Update iOS and all apps
- Go to Settings → General → Software Update.
- Update any apps in the App Store.
- Force close the Phone app
- Double-click the Home button.
- Swipe up on the Phone app to close it.
- Reopen it and place a test call.
- Use another voice calling app
- Try calls using apps like Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, or Google Hangouts.
- If calls work there, the bug is likely limited to the Phone app.
- Reset all settings
- Go to Settings → General → Reset → Reset All Settings.
- Enter your passcode and confirm.
- This resets system settings without deleting your data.
- Factory reset your iPhone
- Backup your data first.
- Go to Settings → General → Reset → Erase All Content and Settings.
- Set up your phone as new and test call audio before restoring apps or settings.
If the problem continues after a factory reset, hardware service might be necessary.
iPhone 6 Microphone and Headphone Jack Not Working
Problem:
Anirudh’s iPhone 6 microphone stopped working, and the headphone jack no longer recognizes headphones. He suspects dust or hardware damage.
Solution:
Here’s what you can try:
- Inspect the headphone port and microphone holes
- Use a flashlight to check for dust or debris.
- Gently clean the ports using a soft brush or compressed air (be very careful!).
- Perform a full restore
- Backup your phone via iTunes.
- Connect the phone to your computer.
- Open iTunes, select your iPhone, and click Restore.
- Follow the prompts to wipe and reinstall the latest iOS.
If the microphone and jack still don’t work after restoring, it’s most likely a hardware issue. Contact Apple Support or visit a certified repair shop for professional cleaning or repair.
iPhone 6 Audio Skipping During Streaming (MLB at Bat App Issue)
Problem:
Jay’s iPhone 6 skips audio every few seconds while using the MLB at Bat app. After a while, the app jumps backward and then drops the connection completely.
Solution:
Here’s how to fix it:
- Update your iOS and apps
- Always the first step. Old software can cause weird bugs.
- Force close the MLB at Bat app
- Double-click Home.
- Find the app and swipe up to close it.
- Relaunch it after a quick reboot.
- Delete and reinstall the app
- Press and hold the app icon until it wiggles.
- Tap the “X” to delete it, then reinstall from the App Store.
- Factory reset if necessary
- If skipping happens across multiple apps, it could be a deeper iOS issue.
- Backup and erase all content and settings via Settings → General → Reset.
If reinstalling or resetting doesn’t fix it, reach out to the app’s developer for support.
