Below are specific topics we’re bringing for you today:
Problem 1: iPhone 6 no sound during calls
My daughter’s iPhone has no audio during phone calls, but audio works fine in all other cases. During a phone call, she cannot hear the other caller, but the other caller can hear her fine. Same problem whether audio is routed to earpiece speaker, loudspeaker, earbud, or Bluetooth. However, the earpiece speaker, loudspeaker, earbud, and Bluetooth all work fine in every other scenario, including playing music, playing games, skype calls, YouTube, Netflix, FaceTime, and even phone calls over T-Mobile WiFi calling.
Apple checked out the phone and claimed it was a T-Mobile network issue. T-Mobile has checked their network several times and keeps claiming there was no problem found. I tried swapping the SIM card with another phone and the problem was still present on my daughter’s iPhone 6 and the other phone with my daughter’s SIM card worked fine. — Mike Ruf
Solution: Hi Mike. There may be an iOS bug that causes this strange behavior. It may also be an isolated case as this is the first time we’ve heard of this problem. Here are the steps that you can try to fix the issue.
Make sure that iOS and all apps are updated. One of the reasons why Apple releases updates from time to time is to fix issues. The same can be said for some app developers. If you set your phone to not install updates automatically, now is the time to change that. If your iPhone is already running the latest iOS version at this time and all apps are up-to-date, simply skip this step.
Force close the Phone app. Since the problem only occurs during calls, there’s a chance that it may be caused by a bug in the Phone app. To check if that’s the case, make sure to restart the said app and see what happens. Here’s how to do that:
- Double-click the Home button to see your most recently used apps.
- Swipe right or left to find the app that you want to close
- Swipe up on the app’s preview to close the app.
Use another voice calling app. Should the issue continue after force closing the native Phone app, see if the problem is replicated when you use a third party app instead. We suggest that you try using official or well built apps like Facebook Messenger or Google Hangouts. This is the most effective way to know if the problem is isolated to Apple Phone app or not.
Reset all settings. Doing the Reset All Settings option in this case is also important, especially if you’ve already tried the steps above. This will ensure that all network settings in your phone are refreshed.
ever, if the issue occurs on ALL apps that uses the rear camera, you should consider resetting all settings first. Here’s how:
- From the Home screen, go to Settings>General>Reset.
- Tap Reset All Settings.
- If presented, enter the passcode.
- Tap Reset All Settings.
Factory reset your device. Any of the procedures above should have fixed the problem by now. However, in the event that it remains at this point, the last thing that you can do before eventually sending the phone is by wiping the phone clean. This procedure will erase your personal files so be sure to create a backup via iTunes or iCloud first.
To factory reset your iPhone, do the following:
- Open Settings app.
- Tap General.
- Tap Reset.
- Tap Erase All Content and Settings.
- If prompted, enter your passcode.
- Tap Erase iPhone.
Problem 2: iPhone 6 microphone and headset port not working
Hi. I am using iPhone 6 since April 2017 but for about 7 days, its microphone is not working. This means the caller is not able to listen to my voice even when I put it on speaker. Moreover its headphone port also is not able to identify my headphones. it is very frustrating as I am posted 1000 km from my hometown. it may be dust problem or hardware. Please let me know what to do now !!!! — Anirudh Kaushish
Solution: Hi Anirudh. As an end user, you are limited to doing basic software troubleshooting and not much else. Aside from that, you can try to check the headset port if it’s covered by dust or if there’s any significant debris preventing good connection but that’s about it. Bear in mind that your iPhone 6 does not have IP67 certification. This means that it doesn’t have dust and water resistance like the iPhone 7. if your phone is regularly bombarded by dust, it’s possible that the microphone may have been blocked, and the headset port may be dirty.
To check if you have a hardware problem, try doing a full restore. Here’s how:
- Create a backup of your files. You can do that in a number of ways but the fastest and most effective way is by using iTunes in your PC or Mac. If you don’t want to create a backup at all, you can simply erase everything on the phone by following the steps in this link.
- Connect your iPhone to your computer with the cable that came with your phone.
- We assume you remember your phone’s passcode so simply enter it when you’re prompted for it.
- Select your iPhone once iTunes asks you for the specific device.
- Once you’re in the Summary panel or screen, select the option that will restore your device (Restore).
- Confirm by clicking on Restore button.
- Wait for a few moments while iTunes restores your device to its factory settings. It may also take some time if iTunes will need to install an updated operating system version.
- After this factory reset, all software settings should be restored to their defaults.
If the problems return after a full restore, that’s a confirmation of our suspicion that hardware malfunction is to blame. If possible, try to send the phone in to Apple so it can be cleaned, repaired, or replaced. If that’s out of the question, let an experienced user or technician open the device for you so the hardware can be examined.
Problem 3: iPhone 6 skips broadcast every few seconds when using MLB at Bat app
Hi. While listening to radio broadcasts on the MLB at Bat app, the broadcast will skip for a split second every few seconds. It also, after a few minutes of broadcasting, skips back about a minute and starts replaying. After it replays for about a minute or so, the connection drops. I thought it was the app, but I have no problem with radio broadcasts on this app with my iPad. Other apps that play music or podcasts or any audio file really, skip for a split second every few seconds. I’ve rebooted the iPhone many times and it has no effect. Is there a separate audio processor or does IOS use dedicated memory for audio that may be corrupted? Thanks for any insight you could provide. — Jay
Solution: Hi Jay. It may be a bug in the local app in your phone so the first troubleshooting step that you want to do is to ensure that you install updates for the operating system and all other apps. This is a basic step when faced with possible app or software problem. If you’ve already did that before contacting us, simply skip it.
The next step that you want to do then is to ensure that you force close the app in question. Here’s how:
- Double-click the Home button to see your most recently used apps.
- Swipe right or left to find the app that you want to close
- Swipe up on the app’s preview to close the app.
Once you’ve force closed the app, make sure that you also restart the phone before testing the app again.
If the problem stays, delete the app and re-install it. Otherwise, don’t hesitate to do a factory reset (Erase All Content and Settings).
If the problem lies somewhere in the phone, erasing all contents and settings should fix the problem. If the issue would continue though, make sure that you contact the developer of the app itself.
