iOS 15 Do Not Disturb Mode
Newer iOS devices including the recently released iPhone SE 3 comes with a privacy feature that silences all notifications for calls and text messages so that you won’t be disturbed when you go to bed, during meals, meetings or any other special occasions. The feature is called Do Not Disturb.
When enabled, Do Not Disturb silence calls, alerts, and notification that you get while your iPhone is locked.
Many iPhone users prefer to put their device in DND mode whenever they don’t want to be interrupted, especially during formal events and business meetings. This setting only takes effect when the iPhone is locked.
To activate and manage this feature, you will need to access the Focus menu in iOS 15.
You can set a schedule for DND to repeat at the same time every day and set exceptions for certain types of calls to ring through and specify which apps to allow alerts from.

Step 1: Tap Settings from the Home screen to get started. Doing so will take you to the iOS settings app menu.
Step 2: While in the main settings menu, find and then tap Focus. Another menu opens, with a list of relevant features.
Step 3: Tap Do Not Disturb to continue.
Step 4: On the succeeding menu, turn on the Do Not Disturb switch. Doing so puts your iPhone in DND mode.
The DND mode icon (crescent moon) appears on the status bar of your iPhone, indicating that the device is now in a Do Not Disturb state.
As a result, all sound notifications from incoming calls, texts, and app alerts are muted unless exceptions are made.
Any noise, vibration and lighting up of the phone screen will also be stopped while the iPhone screen is locked.
Alarms are not affected so expect to hear your phone sounding for the alarms you’ve set even while Do Not Disturb is turned on.

Manage Do Not Disturb settings

Setting Exceptions for People and Apps
Should you wish to set some exceptions while your device is in a DND state, navigate to the Allowed Notifications section from the Do Not Disturb menu and then tap People to allow call notifications from specific people. On the Allowed Notifications screen, select the People tab and then tap the (+) Add Person icon and select the contacts that you’d like to allow calls from while in DND mode.
To set exceptions for specific apps, open the Apps tab and then select the desired app(s) that you’d like to allow notifications from while your iPhone is in DND mode.
Setting a DND Schedule
To set a schedule, navigate to the Turn On Automatically section and then tap the option to Add Schedule or Automation. On the next screen, turn on the Schedule switch then set the From and To time. From the Repeat section select the day(s) that you’d like the same schedule to take effect.
DND with Smart Activation
There is also an option to automatically turn Do Not Disturb on at relevant times throughout the day based on signals such as your location, app usage and more.
Simply toggle the Smart Activation switch ON to use this feature. If you don’t find the need to use it, simply toggle the Smart Activation switch OFF again.
Activating Do Not Disturb via Control Center
Just like other main iOS features and services, Do Not Disturb can also be activated straight from the Control Center of your iPhone.
- To do so, simply swipe down from the top of the Home screen to launch the Control Center and then tap the Focus. On the following screen, tap Do Not Disturb to turn the feature on.
An indication that your iPhone is already in DND mode is the crescent moon icon showing up on the upper-left side of the status bar.
- To configure the DND settings, tap the triple dot next to Do Not Disturb then tap Settings. You will then be redirected back to the Do Not Disturb settings menu where you can manage Allowed Notifications, set Focus status, set the Home screen/Lock screen appearance, turn on Smart Activation, Add a Schedule or Automation.
To disable Do Not Disturb from the Control Center, just tap the Do Not Disturb icon to switch the status to OFF.
The crescent moon icon will disappear from the Status bar of your iPhone, an indication that Do Not Disturb mode is already disabled.
