How to Delete Text Conversations on iPhone SE 3

Need to clean up your Messages app? Whether you’re clearing space, getting rid of clutter, or just tired of seeing old conversations, deleting texts on your iPhone SE 3 is quick and easy. Here’s how to delete individual messages or entire conversations—and how to automatically clear out old texts without lifting a finger.

Delete an Entire Text Conversation

  1. Open the Messages app on your iPhone.
  2. Find the conversation you want to delete.
  3. Swipe left on the conversation thread.
  4. Tap the trash can icon or Delete button.
  5. Confirm by tapping Delete again.

That chat is now gone from your inbox—but it’s still recoverable for 30 days (more on that below).

Delete Specific Messages in a Conversation

  1. Open the Messages app and tap the conversation.
  2. Tap and hold the specific message you want to delete.
  3. Tap More… from the pop-up menu.
  4. Select any additional messages if needed.
  5. Tap the trash can icon in the bottom-left corner.
  6. Tap Delete Message to confirm.

Great if you only want to remove parts of a conversation but not the entire thread.

Recover Deleted Messages (Within 30 Days)

  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Tap Edit in the top-left corner.
  3. Choose Show Recently Deleted.
  4. Select the messages you want to recover.
  5. Tap Recover and confirm.

Deleted texts stay here for 30 days unless you manually remove them sooner.

Enable Auto-Delete for Old Messages

If you want your iPhone to take care of this automatically:

  1. Go to Settings > Messages.
  2. Scroll down to Message History.
  3. Tap Keep Messages.
  4. Choose 30 Days, 1 Year, or Forever.

Selecting “30 Days” will automatically delete all messages older than a month—perfect for decluttering without manual cleanup.
