Skype Not Loading on iPad Pro? Here’s How to Fix It

If Skype won’t open or gets stuck on the loading screen on your iPad Pro, chances are it’s due to a software glitch, network issue, or outdated version. Whether it happened after an iOS update or randomly, here are several ways to get Skype running again on your iPad.

1. Force Close Skype and Restart Your iPad Pro

  • Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle.
  • Find the Skype app preview and swipe it up to close.
  • Repeat for any other running apps.

To restart your iPad:

  • Hold the Top + Volume button until the slider appears.
  • Slide to power off.
  • Turn it back on after 30 seconds and try Skype again.

2. Disable App Restrictions

Restrictions might be blocking Skype.

  • Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions.
  • Tap Allowed Apps.
  • Make sure Skype is allowed or toggle off Content & Privacy Restrictions entirely.

3. Check Your Internet Connection

Skype relies on a stable connection.

  • Open Safari and visit a few websites.
  • If it’s slow or doesn’t work, restart your Wi-Fi router.
  • Try a different Wi-Fi network or reset the connection using Airplane Mode.

4. Update Skype App

App updates often fix bugs that cause loading issues.

  • Open the App Store > Updates.
  • Tap Update next to Skype, or Update All.

Restart your iPad after the update and test Skype again.

5. Reinstall Skype

Corrupt app data may be the issue.

To uninstall:

  • Tap and hold the Skype icon until it jiggles.
  • Tap the X, then confirm Delete.

To reinstall:

  • Go to the App Store, search for Skype, and redownload it.

Open Skype, sign in, and see if it loads correctly.

6. Reset Network Settings

If the issue is related to your connection:

  • Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
  • Reconnect to your Wi-Fi and retry Skype.

7. Reset All Settings (if needed)

To rule out misconfigured system settings:

  • Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings.
  • This won’t delete data but will restore all settings to default.

8. Check Skype Server Status

  • Visit Skype Status to see if it’s a widespread outage.
  • If Skype doesn’t load on other devices either, it’s likely a server-side issue.
