If Instagram keeps crashing or refuses to load on your iPad Pro, it can be incredibly frustrating—especially if you’re in the middle of posting or scrolling. This is usually caused by a poor internet connection, a glitchy app version, or outdated software. Here’s how you can fix it and get back to your feed.
Check Your Internet Connection
Instagram needs a stable internet connection to function properly.
- Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data if possible to see which one works better.
- Move closer to your router if the Wi-Fi signal is weak.
- Restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds and plugging it back in.
If the connection is strong and Instagram still won’t load, move on to the next step.
Restart Your iPad Pro
A simple reboot often fixes minor app glitches.
- Press and hold the Top (Power) button and either Volume button until the power slider appears.
- Drag the slider to turn off the iPad.
- After about 30 seconds, press and hold the Top button again to turn it back on.
Once it restarts, try launching Instagram.
Force Close and Reopen Instagram
Sometimes, Instagram just needs a fresh start.
- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle to open the app switcher.
- Swipe left or right to find Instagram.
- Swipe up on the app preview to force close it.
- Reopen the app from the Home screen.
Update the Instagram App
Outdated versions of Instagram can crash or act up on newer iOS builds.
- Open the App Store.
- Tap your profile picture in the top right corner.
- Scroll down to see pending updates.
- If Instagram is listed, tap Update.
You can also tap Update All to refresh every outdated app at once.
Delete and Reinstall Instagram
Reinstalling ensures you’re using the latest version and clears out corrupted app data.
- Tap and hold the Instagram icon until a menu appears.
- Choose Remove App > Delete App > confirm deletion.
- Open the App Store, search for Instagram, and reinstall it.
After reinstalling, log back in and see if the issue is resolved.
Update iPadOS
Sometimes the app isn’t the issue—your iPad might just need a system update.
- Open Settings > General > Software Update.
- If an update is available, tap Download and Install.
- Follow the prompts. Your iPad will restart after the update finishes.
Make sure to back up your iPad beforehand just to be safe.
Still Not Working?
If you’ve tried everything and Instagram still won’t load or keeps crashing:
- Try using Instagram Web in Safari or another browser as a temporary workaround.
- Contact Instagram Support from their Help Center for more direct troubleshooting.
- Wait it out — sometimes server outages or buggy updates affect many users at once.
