Tips & Tricks: How To Duplicate A Photo Before Cropping Or Editing

Have you ever tried to edit your photo on your iPhone like making color adjustments and or cropping it to your desired frame size only to find out that you’ve edited the original copy of the photo? You now have an edit version but then you still want to have a copy of the original. Do not worry, you can now make duplicates of any photo you wish to edit without messing up the original copy. What does this mean? It means that you can make exactly the same copy of the photo or image right to your iPhone, two copies of the exact same photo. That way you can edit now edit the duplicated copy without having to worry about making changes on the original copy, thereby preserving it in its original format.

Creating a duplicate copy is very useful when you want to make some photo modifications such as cropping, editing, distort and filter. Although you can always Revert edited photos, reverting also removes the edited version returning it back to the original copy. Duplicate basically works with any photo on your iPhone Photo albums ii.e. Live Photos and Selfies. You can even do this on your videos too.

Creating a duplicate copy of the image is very simple and easy, read on below to find out how. The feature is only available in the latest and newest iOS versions of your iPhone. There is no need to install the feature, it is already by default available when you update.

HOW TO MAKE A DUPLICATE COPY OF A PHOTO BEFORE CROPPING OR EDITING

To make a duplicate copy of Photos, here’s what you need to do:

  1. From the home screen of your iPhone, open the Photos App
  2. Select the Photo you want to make a duplicate.
  3. Then tap on the Share button, an icon that looks like an arrow facing up located at the lower left corner.
  4. Scroll down from the list of options, select Duplicate. 
  5. Go back to Camera Roll, duplicate copy will now be available. It usually appears as the latest photo on Camera Roll.

You can always repeat this process as many times as you please, this means there is no limit as to the number of times you can duplicate a particular photo. One important thing to remember though is that since there is another duplicate of the photo, these also requires the same storage space on your iPhone. The quality and the resolution of the duplicate photo is the same as with the original copy.
