Problem #1: iPhone 8 overheats when using FaceTime or during calls
Dear Sir. I am writing to you with frustration since I am not getting the required service from the seller and the agent from Mauritius. I had sent my iPhone 8 to get repaired since the device was getting over heat while using FaceTime and video call. It was showing thermometer icon with mention “hot temperature”. Complaint was lodged on 17th April and I received it on 08th May 2018. Once home I put on the phone and noticed the same problem I was having i.e overheat. I sent it again for repairs. Unfortunately , I am still waiting for a response from the seller and agent ( Leal Communications co ltd). The iPhone is still in warranty and this will expire on 28th May 2018. I hope that you will advise me on the steps to be taken. Thanks and Regards. — Nitin Nitin Khadun
Solution: Hi Nitin. Based on our own experience, a technician may sometimes overlook overheating issue because they won’t be able to replicate the issue during service. This may be the reason why your iPhone was returned to you in the same exact condition. While it’s definitely not your fault that this happens (we presume you provided details about the problem during service), we suggest that you do more measures to prevent this from happening again. For example, you should put it on record when requesting for service that the issue only occurs after you’ve say, used Facetime for certain period of time. Keep in mind that a technician will have to know what is happening the moment he opens or examines the device. Unless there’s proper documentation that tells him or her about the specifics of your problem, he or she may find the device working after checking it for a few minutes. If there certain circumstances that might have caused the phone to overheat, be sure to mention it. For instance, if overheating issue only occurs when you’re on mobile data connection but not on wifi, it might help the technician isolate the issue.
Remember, overheating is just a sign of a possible software bug or hardware malfunction. In order to understand the situation, more information from your device is needed. We don’t have the history of your iPhone so we can’t say where the issue lies. There’s a chance though that the problem may be due to a software glitch so we recommend that you wipe your phone, factory reset it, then check what happens when you use Facetime again.
To factory reset your iPhone 8:
- Back your personal data up via iTunes or iCloud.
- Open Settings app.
- Tap General.
- Tap Reset.
- Tap Erase All Content and Settings.
- If prompted, enter your passcode.
- Tap Erase iPhone.
Now that you’ve factory reset your iPhone, set it up as a new device (and not from your backup). Then, use Facetime again and replicate the issue. Make sure that you don’t install anything during this time.
If your iPhone 8 will still overheat after a factory reset and when there are no other apps installed, that means your overheating issue is being caused by bad hardware. Go ahead and have your phone replaced. Make sure to request for a replacement phone because we doubt there’s anything they can do to really fix the problem at all.
Problem #2: How to recover data from iPhone 8 that won’t turn on
Hi. I am Ricky in Japan. I run into a trouble that my iPhone8 plus cannot be turned on since the whole night charge. I bought the device 6 month ago and the IOS was supposed to be upgraded to the newest version at midnight before that tragedy happened. I tried every way to wake it up and it dose not even give a single response. (Force restart, Connect to the iTunes on PC- not detected, charge for over 5 hours…) I contacted to technical support in Japan and they told me to change a device for free. However, the issue is that I forgot to backup some data from the local device and I really want it back. To replace it or repair it in Japan means you will lose all data in the phone. Can you give me some advises ? Thank you. — Ricky
Solution: Hi Ricky. You need a working iPhone to create a backup or if you want to access the contents in its internal storage device. If your iPhone is dead as it won’t take a charge, or because its motherboard has been damaged, there’s no way to recover your data at all. Even if, say, the problem is caused by a bad battery only, Apple will still wipe your phone during service so it won’t basically help still.
In order for a second device like a computer to access and read the contents in your iPhone’s storage device, it needs to be given permission by your iPhone first. Obviously, that won’t happen at all since your phone is dead in the first place so your data is totally locked out. There’s no recovery software that can help in this case either because again, such software has to be installed on a computer in order to scan your phone. So, unless you can find a way to power the phone back on and make the operating system work normally, there’s no way those data of yours can be recovered.
If the information from your phone are really that important to you, you can try to bring your phone to an independent service center. In there, you can explicitly tell the technician that you want to preserve your data and all they need to do is to check for the problem. If you’re lucky and the reason for the problem is on the battery only, a battery replacement should be the only thing you need to fix the issue. If the cause of the problem goes beyond the battery, there’s no guarantee that repair may revive your device. Keep in mind that by allowing independent technicians to open your phone and repair it, you’re basically voiding your Apple warranty. Even if you’ll pay Apple to repair your phone in the future, they’ll not do it for you since a non-Apple tech has already tampered with the hardware.
Problem #3: iPhone 8 Plus issues after iOS 11 update
Since iOS upgrade my iPhone 8 plus 256GB has come major software issues. When I press the home button it always goes to panoramic first and then changes the screen to the upright view, the home button sometimes make weird noises, when I then put the phone to. No sound nor when I plugged in with eye phone I can’t hear nothing either, everything is on silent so I can’t do calls cos I won’t hear nothing. Only browsing and the apps is also keep running slow and it got always freezing. I have resent it but still the same problem, It’s new phone and I don’t know if it’s Hard ware or software issue so pls help me. — Suley Issaka
Solution: Hi Suley. Sometimes, installing updates can have mixed results. To see if you can fix the issue on your level, follow our suggestions below.
Reset network settings
The first possible solution that you can do is reset the device’s network settings. Updates can sometimes lead to network problems so it’s good if you can restore your iPhone’s network configuration to their defaults. Here’s how to do that:
- Tap Settings to open the app.
- Tap General.
- Tap Reset.
- Select the option to Reset Network Settings.
- If prompted, enter the device password.
- Confirm action.
Reset all settings
Another good solution that may help in this case is by resetting all your iPhone’s settings to their factory state. Some bugs are caused by incorrect settings so to ensure that everything is back to their previous state, you can do broad stroke of restoring all settings. This will delete your customizations so you’ll have to set them up again later on.
To reset all settings on your iPhone 8:
- Tap Settings from the Home screen.
- Tap General.
- Tap Reset.
- Tap Reset All Settings.
- If prompted, enter the correct passcode for your device.
- Tap the option to Reset All Settings to confirm action.
Restore from known working previous backup
If you’ve created a backup of your system prior to installing iOS update, try to see what happens if you restore your iPhone using it. Make sure that you factory reset your iPhone first before using your previous backup to restore it. Refer to the steps above on how to factory reset your iPhone 8.
After a factory reset, follow the steps below on how to restore from a previous backup:
- Create a backup of your files. You can do that in a number of ways but the fastest and most effective way is by using iTunes in your PC or Mac. If you don’t want to create a backup at all, you can simply erase everything on the phone by following the steps in this link.
- Connect your iPhone to your computer with the cable that came with your phone.
- We assume you remember your phone’s passcode so simply enter it when you’re prompted for it.
- Select your iPhone once iTunes asks you for the specific device.
- Once you’re in the Summary panel or screen, select the option that will restore your device (Restore).
- Confirm by clicking on Restore button.
- Wait for a few moments while iTunes restores your device to its factory settings. It may also take some time if iTunes will need to install an updated operating system version.
- After this factory reset, all software settings should be restored to their defaults.
