Troubleshooting Snapchat app that’s not working in iOS 13

The following are generic solutions that are used to deal with minor post-update errors that caused conflicts to third-party apps, like Snapchat. In-app glitches, firmware errors, incorrect settings, network issues, and iOS bugs are the underlying factors to be eliminated with this walkthrough.

Before you begin troubleshooting, check your Internet connection. Snapchat is a web-based app and therefore requires a stable Internet connection to operate or work as intended on your iPhone. If your device is experiencing intermittent or no Internet connection, then that’s what you need to resolve first. Once your internet connection is fixed, online apps should be able to work as intended. If there’s no problem with your iPhone’s internet connection and yet you couldn’t get Snapchat to work in the recently installed iOS 13 platform, you may proceed and troubleshoot software problems on your device.

First solution: Quit then restart Snapchat on your iPhone.

Apps that are left open during the update are more likely to end up glitching. If this happens, restarting the app is needed. That said, quit Snapchat then launch it again on your device. On iphone x and later models, follow these steps to quit Snapchat and any other apps running in the background:

  1. Go to the Home screen, to get started.
  2. Then, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause slightly in the middle of the screen.
  3. Swipe right or left to navigate through app previews.
  4. Then, swipe up on the Snapchat app’s preview to close it.
  5. Do the same to clear out all other suspended applications to prevent them from causing conflicts the next time you run Snapchat on your phone.

If you’re using an iPhone 8 or earlier version, follow these steps to end/quit Snapchat and other background apps:

  1. Go to your Home screen and press the Home key twice to view recent applications.
  2. Swipe on the Snapchat app card/preview upward to quit or end the app.
  3. Do the same to close any background apps.

After clearing all background apps, tap anywhere on the Home screen or press the Home key to go back to the Home screen.

Second solution: Soft reset to fix Snapchat that’s not working in iOS 13.

If quitting and restarting Snapchat doesn’t fix the problem, then try rebooting your iPhone. This would be necessary to clear out minor firmware errors inflicted by the recent iOS update installation. A restart also gives apps a clean fresh start. So if you haven’t already, restart/soft reset your iPhone with these subsequent methods.

On iPhone 8 and earlier models, performing a soft reset or reboot is done this way:

  1. Press and hold the Power button for a few seconds until the Slide to Power Off label appears.
  2. Drag the slider to power off your device.
  3. After 30 seconds, press the Power button to turn it back on.

On an iPhone X and X series, follow these steps to soft reset or restart the device:

  1. Press and hold the Top button and either Volume button for a few seconds.
  2. Release both buttons when the Slide to Power Off label appears.
  3. Drag the slider to power off your device completely.
  4. After 30 seconds, press and hold the Top button again until the Apple logo appears.

Wait for your iPhone to finish rebooting then reconnect to Wi-Fi to go back online and use online apps and services, particularly Snapchat.

Third solution: Update Snapchat to the latest version available.

Apps that aren’t up to date are also prone to becoming rogue from an update. This is usually the case if the app is no longer able to meet the minimum system requirements. To fix the problem, update the app to the latest version available. If your iPhone is connected to the Internet and has ample storage and battery life, then you can follow these steps to check and manually install pending app updates through the App Store:

  1. Open the App Store app.
  2. Tap on your Apple ID profile picture located on the top-right corner of the screen.
  3. Scroll down to the Pending Updates section. You can only see and access this section if there are pending updates on your phone. A list of recent updates to your apps will then show up underneath this section.
  4. Tap the Update button next to Snapchat to install pending update for the app.
  5. If multiple app updates are available, tap the Update All button to prompt the device to download and apply all app updates in the background.
  6. The recently installed updates can be viewed under the Updated Recently section.

Restart your iPhone when all app updates are finished installing. Then launch Snapchat again to see if it is already working.

Fourth solution: Turn off app restrictions on your iPhone.

One of the privacy features of your iPhone is the so-called Content and Privacy Restrictions. When enabled, a certain app can be restricted from running on your device. To make sure this isn’t halting Snapchat from working properly in iOS 13, disable restrictions on your iPhone. Here’s how:

  1. Tap to open the Settings app from Home.
  2. Tap on Screen Time.
  3. Scroll to Content & Privacy Restrictions.
  4. Then toggle the switch to turn restrictions off.

You can also keep restrictions turned on but make sure Snapchat is listed under the Allowed Apps section. This will lift up Restrictions for Snapchat while keeping other apps limited.

Fifth solution: Reinstall Snapchat on your iPhone.

Your iPhone’s Snapchat app might have been corrupted from the recent update and is therefore no longer able to work. If this is what happens, you will need to delete the corrupted Snapchat app from your device and then install the latest version of it through the App Store. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Settings app from your Home screen.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap iPhone Storage.
  4. Find Snapchat from the list of apps.
  5. Then tap the option to Delete App.
  6. If prompted, tap Delete to confirm that you want to delete YouTube app from your iPhone.

Reboot your iPhone after successfully deleting the app. Allow your device to reconnect to Wi-Fi internet and then open the App Store to search for and get the latest version of Snapchat available for your iPhone.

Sixth solution: Reset all settings on your iPhone.

Incorrect settings on the phone can also cause an app to stop working from an update. This is usually what happens if the iOS 13 update imposed automatic settings overrides, which eventually resulted in some conflicts. To clear this out, reset all settings on your iPhone with these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Scroll to and tap General.
  3. Tap on Reset
  4. Select the option to Reset all settings.
  5. Enter your passcode if prompted to proceed.
  6. Tap to confirm that you want to reset all settings on your device.

Your phone will then reset and restore its default preference. This doesn’t delete any saved information on the internal memory, there’s no need to worry. After the reset, you can enable the features that you need to use on your device.
