Troubleshooting your iPhone or iPad that’s ‘Stuck on Verifying Update’

Before troubleshooting, verify and ensure that your device is eligible for the beta update version. If you are not sure, then you may contact your carrier or Apple Support for more details. If you’re certain that your device is supported and yet you cannot download or install the iOS 13 beta update and gets stuck on verifying update instead, then try the given solutions below to rule out software-related hindrances.

Don’t forget to retry downloading and installing the iOS 13 beta update on your iPhone or iPad after performing each of the following procedures to determine whether or not the problem is resolved. Continue to the next applicable solution if necessary.

First solution: Reboot/forced restart.

Performing a forced restart may be the only thing that’s needed to straighten things out especially if minor firmware crashes are the main triggers. What likely happened was that the update system had crashed and that thereby caused your device to stop connecting to the update server and got stuck on verifying update. If you haven’t done this yet, then you should consider performing a forced restart among the first potential solutions to apply. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Quickly press and release the Volume Up button.
  2. Quickly press and release the Volume Down button.
  3. Then, press and hold the Power button until the Apple logo appears.

If you’re using an iPhone or iPad with a physical Home button, then follow these steps to carry out a forced restart:

  1. Simultaneously press and hold the Power button and Home button until the device shuts down and reboots.
  2. When the Apple logo appears, release both the Power and Home buttons.

Allow your device to finish booting up and then reconnect to Wi-Fi.

Second solution: Turn Wi-Fi off and back on again.

Random Internet problems, particularly Wi-Fi drops or intermittent connection to the Internet are also among the possible causes. If your device doesn’t have a stable Internet connection, it wouldn’t be able to establish a secure connection to the update server. Eventually, the update process would be interrupted and fail. To fix minor Wi-Fi problems like this, toggling the Wi-Fi switch can help. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. From the Home screen, tap on Settings.
  2. Select Wi-Fi.
  3. Then toggle the switch to turn Wi-Fi off.
  4. After a few seconds, toggle the switch again to turn Wi-Fi back on.

Performing this tweak is also a way of refreshing internet functions of your device. Random Internet issues inflicted by minor firmware crashes and app glitches are likewise remedied in the process.

Third solution: Forget Wi-Fi network then reconnect.

The use of corrupted Wi-Fi network is also one of the possible causes. The same thing could happen if the Wi-Fi connection is interfered or spoiled by other saved Wi-Fi networks. To rule this out, forgetting Wi-Fi network is recommended. To get this done, Wi-Fi must be enabled so you can view a list of all saved Wi-Fi networks on your device. Then follow these steps to start forgetting Wi-Fi networks:

  1. Go to Settings-> Wi-Fi menu and then make sure that the Wi-Fi switch is turned on.
  2. Navigate to the list of available Wi-Fi networks.
  3. Select the Wi-Fi network that you want to forget.
  4. Then tap the information “i” icon next to the name of the Wi-Fi network to forget.
  5. Tap Forget This Network to continue.
  6. Then confirm that you want to Forget Network.

If you see any other saved Wi-Fi networks, delete them all using the same procedures to prevent any of them from causing conflicts to your Wi-Fi network.

After deleting Wi-Fi networks, reboot your device and then go back to Settings-> Wi-Fi menu. Toggle the Wi-Fi switch off and on. When the list of Wi-Fi network shows up, tap to select your preferred Wi-Fi network to use and then tap Join or Connect. If prompted, enter the correct Wi-Fi password to proceed.

Fourth solution: Reset network settings.

Network problems in general are usually addressed by a network reset. Invalid network configurations may result in relevant errors and the best way to correct them is by restoring the original network values and options. Performing this reset does not affect any saved data on the internal memory but will erase all saved Bluetooth connections, Wi-Fi networks, APNs, and server settings on the phone. If you wish to try this workaround, then here’s what you should do next:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Select General.
  3. Scroll down to and tap on Reset.
  4. Choose the option to Reset network settings.
  5. Enter your device passcode when asked to proceed.
  6. Then tap the option to confirm that you want to reset network settings.

Your device will reboot automatically when the reset is finished. As soon as it boots up, enable Wi-Fi to reconnect to your Wi-Fi network and get back online. Once your device is connected, retry downloading and installing the iOS 13 beta update version and see if it goes through. If your device gets stuck on verifying update again, then proceed to the next solution.

Fifth solution: Delete the update file from your device.

During the first update you’ve made, a segment of the update file was likely downloaded and saved on your device storage. But since the update was not finished, that file has been corrupted. As a result, your device could no longer download the complete update file. To correct the error, you will need to remove the downloaded portion of the update file before you retry downloading. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. From the Home screen, tap on Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap [Device] Storage.
  4. Find the update file from the list of apps and files and then tap to select.
  5. After selecting the update file, tap the option to Delete the file.

Confirm action if you’re prompted to do so and then wait until the update file deletion is finished.

Last resort: Use iTunes.

If your device continues to get stuck on verifying update after exhausting all the given procedures, then you may consider using iTunes. If you have a computer that has the latest version of iTunes app installed, then you can use it to manually download and install iOS 13 beta version. Here’s what you should do then:

  1. Connect your iOS device to the computer using the original USB cable/Lightning cable.
  2. Open iTunes and wait for it to detect your device.
  3. When your device appears in iTunes, click on its icon to select it.
  4. Navigate to the Summary section then click the button to Check for Update.
  5. If an update is available, click the button to Download and Install.
  6. Enter your passcode if prompted to continue.

Follow the rest of the onscreen instructions to finish updating your device in iTunes.

Still couldn’t fix iOS 13 stuck on verifying update error?

Perhaps, the update server is currently experiencing congestion or temporarily unavailable and so your device is unable to verify and fetch the update file. Should this be the case, then there’s not much can be done on your end but to wait until the update server is available again. You can confirm the current status of the update server by contacting Apple Support and ask them to check the server status straight from their system.

And if nothing else works, then better just wait for the final iOS 13 update version to roll out officially this September.
