Problem #1: How to fix an iPhone XS Max with blurry camera issue
Good morning. I’ve recently purchased the iPhone XS Max and the camera appears to be very blurry. Especially on apps such as Snapchat. So it looks as though it’s going to focus, you then take the photo and it goes blurry. I’ve tried everything that was recommended and it hasn’t worked. Please come up with a resolution. Kind regards.
Solution: There’s a number of possibilities why an iPhone’s camera appear to take blurry photos. Let’s discuss each of them and what you can do about each one.
Solution #1: Dirty external lens
Dirt, dust, or smudge in the lens can cause the camera to lose focus. Keep in mind that your iPhone’s camera follows certain algorithms in order to establish focus. If it can’t detect a certain point in a photo because of a dirty lens, it may not be able to focus properly when you hit the shutter button.
Normally, when fixing this type of problem, the first troubleshooting step is to ensure that the user wipe the lens. Ideally, you want to use a microfiber cloth for this task but if it won’t come handy, any clean soft cloth will do.
If there’s visible dirt or smudge on the lens, avoid pressing on it wiping it away with your finger. Use the cloth instead to remove it.
Solution #2: Remove the case
If you happen to be using an external case, we suggest that you remove it from the equation and observe how your camera works. Aftermarket cases may sometimes inhibit your iPhone’s camera from working properly as the added plastic shade or incorrect measurements may make the phone dark and blurry. Try taking same exact photos without the case and see if there’s a difference.
Solution #3: Help your device to focus
By default, your iPhone XS Max camera is set to focus on its own and without user intervention. If it unable to do so for some reason, even when holding the phone still and in good light environment, you can try to help it recognize areas in your phone to focus on. You can do that by simply tapping the screen where you want the camera to focus on. Good as your iPhone may be in picking up a face in a frame, it may encounter a problem when trying to figure out which part to focus on when there are too many objects in a photo, or if there’s barely enough discernible object. Help it recognize the part to focus on and you should be good. Use this handy focusing tip when you’re trying to capture a photo in low-light condition.
Solution #4: Restart the camera app
As mentioned, your iPhone is supposed to focus quite intelligently but if it is unable to do so all the time, there may be other reasons aside from the ones mentioned above. At this point, it’s a good idea to consider the possibility that the camera app itself may have encountered a bug. Like any app in your phone, the camera app can become problematic easily. If the bug is temporary and minor, you may be able to fix it by closing and re-opening the camera app.
To close the camera app:
- Open the app switcher by swiping up from the bottom-left corner of the screen and pausing slightly in the middle of the screen.
- Find the camera app by swiping right or left to find the app that you want to close.
- Swipe up on the app’s preview to close the app.
If the camera app disappears from the app switcher, then it’s already closed. At this point, you want to restart your iPhone XS Max before opening the camera app again.
Solution #5: Force reboot your iPhone XS Max
In some cases, users were able to successfully resolve focusing issue by simply restarting their device. If you haven’t restarted your iPhone at this point, now is the right time to do it. The operating system may have developed a minor bug that affected the camera app and a system reboot may be all it takes to get rid of it.
To reboot your iPhone XS Max: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then, press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo.
Solution #6: DFU Restore
If nothing has changed so far at this point of your troubleshooting, the next logical troubleshooting step is to Restore the device via DFU Mode. Before you restore your iPhone, be sure to back your personal data up to avoid losing them. Afterwards, boot the phone to DFU Mode to restore it by doing the following steps:
- In your computer, close all active apps.
- Open iTunes.
- Turn off your iPhone. If you can’t turn it off normally, let the battery drain to 0% so the phone powers down on its own. Charge the phone for at least an hour without attempting to turn it on.
- Connect your iPhone to the computer via USB cable.
- Press and hold the Power button for at least 3 seconds.
- Press and hold the Volume Down button on the left side of the iPhone while continuing to hold the Power button. Be sure to hold both Power and Volume Down keys for 10 seconds. If Apple logo appears at this time, repeat steps 5 and 6. Apple logo should not show at all.
- Continue to hold Volume Down key for another 5 seconds. If the Plug into iTunes screen is displayed, repeat steps 5-7. Plug into iTunes screen should not show up.
- You’ll know that your phone is in DFU mode if the screen remains black. Your computer should then tell you that iTunes has detected an iPhone.
- Follow the on-screen steps in your computer to do a full recovery.
Solution #7: Get Apple support
There’s a good chance that DFU restore will fix focus issues but if your iPhone is still problematic afterwards, it’s high time to consider asking help from Apple. The cause of the problem is most likely hardware in nature so there’s nothing that you can do about it. There may be a mechanical failure behind the trouble, or a coding issue that Apple is not aware of at the moment. Be sure to visit your local Apple store to schedule repair or replacement appointment.
Problem #2: iPhone XS won’t work with in-car Bluetooth
I recently purchased an iPhone xs, which will not connect to my 2015 Hyundai . Manufacturers stated that it may not be compatible. Can you comment? My handsfree mode is critical in my line of work.
Solution: In-vehicle Bluetooth systems installed in cars tend to get incompatible with newer smartphones. As newer Bluetooth systems in smartphones advance, Bluetooth systems in cars are usually left behind. This is the reason why there’s a lot of Bluetooth connectivity issues happening when there are new software updates for phones. This is true for iOS and non-iOS devices. If you are unable to connect your new iPhone XS to your car’s Bluetooth, or if there’s a missing functionality after pairing, the two devices must have an incompatibility issue. We are in no position if this is the real reason but your car dealership should be able to tell.
As far as Bluetooth troubleshooting in this case is concerned, you can only try to delete all pairing in both devices, restart them, and reestablish a connection. If pairing fails or if the problem continues after re-pairing, incompatibility must be to blame.
Try to consult your car dealership if there’s a workaround that they can suggest, or if they can install newer in-car Bluetooth system that can work with your new iPhone.
Problem #3: iPhone XS Max Facebook app won’t load
I just purchased the iPhone XS Max and Facebook app won’t load. I’ve tried several different things to fix the problem by google but still no progress.
Solution: If you’re having loading issue with Facebook app only, your troubleshooting steps should focus on this app. Below are suggestions that you can try:
- Ensure you have good internet connection.
- Try using wifi connection if you’ve been using mobile data connection all along and vice versa.
- Close Facebook app and reopen it (steps provided above).
- Reinstall Facebook app.
- Reset network settings.
- Contact Facebook developer.
We have no reports from other users having trouble with Facebook app on their new iPhone XS Max at this time so your problem may be isolated. Make sure that your Facebook app is fully updated before doing any of the troubleshooting above.
