That’s a good question. There have been reports here and there about the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus bending so this topic is worth discussing a bit. One of our readers emailed us asking support on what to do because his 3-month old iPhone 6 Plus has apparently shown signs of #Bendgate.
Dear Sir.
I found your email address from internet. I bought my iPhone 6, 64GB plus 3 months ago. Now I am facing to problems.
- The home button while clicking creates clicking sound. Sometimes is very easily hearable and sometime its works perfect. I am not sure what to do with this problem and also not sure will my warranty company will resolve the issue or not.
- My phone is very slightly bent from volume up and down side by itself. In the whole scenario i am worried that my stupid warranty company won’t give me any solution and will say its normal. I don’t know how to resolve this matter and to whom I have to contact. I need a guidance as it’s my first i phone. Kind regards. — Sheraz
If you happen to have a similar problem, here are the things that you must do:
How to Get a Replacement For a Bent Iphone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus
1. Visit your local Apple store
This should be the first thing that you must do. The issues mentioned above are clearly hardware in nature so this blog can offer little to nothing in terms of fixing it. Most probably, your case will end up with a replacement. Claims of bent iPhones need to pass a test called Visual Mechanical Inspection in order to merit replacement. This test was discussed by The Next Web last year although nothing much was divulged about it.
iPhones that are not over a year old from the date of purchase should be well covered by Apple’s 1-year limited warranty. If you want to check the specifics of your iPhone’s warranty, make sure you select the correct region in Apple’s website as there might be some slight differences to some provisions per country.
If your phone was not tampered with, there’s a big chance that your local Apple store will honor your request for a replacement. It normally takes about a week to get a new replacement iPhone based in our experience so make sure to find a temporary alternative while waiting for it.

2. Engage Apple’s chat support
We recommend Apple’s chat support over their voice customer service because of convenience. Make sure that you have all information handy before you chat with them to shorten the session. They usually asks for things like the phone’s serial number and IMEI. If you don’t how to get them, just go to Settings>General>About. You can also visit this link to know how to get these information without going through Settings.
3. Call Apple
If you want to go through old school, yet effective method of getting help, try calling Apple’s technical hotline. Support numbers per country vary so kindly check this page first to get the correct one.
4. Out of warranty pricing
If your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus is over a year old from the date of purchase, requesting for service or replacement is free. It costs $299 for iPhone 6 to be serviced while $329 for iPhone 6 Plus. If Apple deems your iPhone has sustained user-inflicted damage even if it’s not over a year old, repair and replacement will not be free.
5. Backup your personal data
If you have decided to have your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus serviced, don’t forget to back up your files. You have two options to do it–via iCloud or iTunes. For more information, kindly check this tutorial page on what to do.
Your backup keeps your device settings and files so once you receive the fixed iPhone or replacement, you can simply transfer your data to the new one easily.
That’s basically the things you need to know on how to get a replacement for a bent iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus. Don’t forget to email us if you have any other concerns regarding any of your Apple product.
