iPhone 6 Plus Camera Blurry? Here’s How to Fix It

If your iPhone 6 Plus is suddenly taking blurry photos—especially after a software update or when zooming in—you’re not alone. A lot of users have dealt with this issue, often caused by hardware quirks or software bugs. Here’s a full rundown of fixes you can try before heading to the Apple Store.

1. Clean the Camera Lens

It sounds basic, but you’d be surprised how many blurry photos are caused by fingerprints or grime.

  • Wipe the lens gently with a microfiber cloth.
  • Check for any debris inside the lens—if you spot anything under the glass, it’ll need professional service.

2. Remove Your Case (Especially If It’s Metallic or Magnetic)

Some cases—especially those with metal or magnets—can mess with the iPhone 6 Plus’s optical image stabilization.

  • Take a few test shots without the case on.
  • If the blurriness improves, your case is likely the culprit.

3. Make Sure Nothing’s Blocking the Lens

Again, simple but often overlooked.

  • Check for dust, lint, or a misaligned screen protector near the lens.
  • Remove anything that could be interfering.

4. Tap to Focus Manually

Sometimes the camera just needs a little help.

  • Open the Camera app.
  • Tap on the area you want to focus on.
  • You’ll notice a pulsing effect as it tries to focus—hold steady while this happens.
  • Don’t move too far or it’ll reset the focus back to the center.

5. Avoid Shaky Hands

Especially in low light, the iPhone 6 Plus camera needs a steady hand.

  • Brace your arms or lean on something solid.
  • If you’re indoors, try turning on more lights or using flash.

6. Zooming Makes It Worse? Here’s Why

The iPhone 6 Plus only has digital zoom, which reduces image quality.

  • Avoid zooming in if possible—move closer instead.
  • If zoomed-in shots are especially blurry, the image stabilization may be failing (see the hardware note at the bottom).

7. Reset Camera Settings

If you’ve been tweaking camera settings, a reset might help.

  • Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset.
  • Tap Reset All Settings (this won’t delete your data).

8. Turn Off HDR (Or Set It to Auto)

Sometimes HDR messes with clarity, especially in motion or high-contrast scenes.

  • Open the Camera app.
  • Tap HDR at the top and switch it to Auto or Off.

9. Update or Restore iOS

If the blurriness started after a software update, try restoring the phone.

  • Back up your phone via iCloud or iTunes first.
  • Connect your iPhone to a computer and open iTunes (or Finder on macOS Catalina+).
  • Select your iPhone and click Restore iPhone.
  • Set it up as new instead of restoring from backup (at least for testing).

This helps rule out a corrupted update or buggy camera settings.

10. Still Blurry? It Might Be a Hardware Issue

The iPhone 6 Plus is notorious for a known defect in its camera’s OIS (optical image stabilization). If none of the above fixes work, you might be dealing with a failing camera module.

  • Book a Genius Bar appointment or visit an Apple Authorized Service Provider.
  • If you’re out of warranty, ask about potential repair costs.

Try each step one at a time—it’s often something small. But if your zoomed-in shots stay blurry no matter what, it’s likely a hardware issue.
