Problem #1: What to do if iPhone 7 screen randomly stops working causing black screen issue

Hello Guys. Unfortunately my iPhone 7 is suffering from this “Black Screen Issue”. I will tell you a bit how it happened and what have I done:

So it starts to happen out of a blue, in the middle of the day, and with the phone on my side table, without any drop, hit, sink in water or any extreme Temperature. As i tried to activate my phone, I could feel the menu Button that it was working, Same as all other the analog Buttons, like the one to block the phone (because i could hear the Screen shot Sound).

I tried the force restart many times but it didnt work either. Then also out of nothing, the Screen was working again, and i could see all back to normal. But then as soon as i was blocking the phone, ´the Screen was staying again in black and i couldn’t activate my phone again. I took it to the apple store and they said that it was a Problem with the Display or lcd (don’t remember which of both, it was also in german that is not my mother language) and that i had to fix it for 169 euros, (that at the Moment i can’t pay). After i took it to the Apple store, they reboot my phone. as if it was new, and after that the Screen was staying way less often in black, and bringing it to “active”was easier and faster as before (10 to 20 tries to unblock the phone and then it was enabled).

But last night i did the recovery of my Information to my phone, and then the black Screen Problem is as intense as at the beginning.

Thank you so much for reading and i hope you can help me to fix it, withoth having to pay that big amount of Money. Best regards.

Solution: That the screen continues to stop working at random is a clear indication that what Apple told you is true — that the screen is bad. It’s possible that this may be an LCD problem since it comes and goes. The screen assembly connector may have become loose, causing the screen to sometimes lose power to display the images. In this situation, repair or screen replacement is the only way to go. For you, there are two ways to go about it. One is by letting Apple fix the phone and the other is by doing the screen replacement yourself.

Sure, allowing Apple to fix the phone is expensive but it’s the better option between the two. Not only are you guaranteed to have a working phone after Apple repair it but it should also save you from all the hassles that amateurs encounter when doing hardware repair. If you think about it, do-it-yourself repairs are not really free since you still have to buy the parts and repair kit. Our major concern when it comes to DIY repairs is not the cost but the chance that more damage may occur. While there are a lot of YouTube videos that you can follow to replace your iPhone 7 screen, most first time or amateur technicians may find themselves overwhelmed. This can lead to more problems after repair. In a lot of cases, the phone may not be repaired properly at all, or may still fail eventually later on due to incompatible or substandard components.

If you are desperate and do not want to go through Apple’s repair program, then you should take the risks involved, including the possibility of breaking the phone for good. And keep in mind, once your phone’s hardware has been tampered with, Apple will no longer accept it for repair, even if you’ll pay them to do it. That can put you in a really tight spot later on if self-help repair will not go as planned. If you want to repair your phone yourself, use Google to search for guides how to do it. Some websites like iFixit also provides the materials to help you do it.

Problem #2: What to do if iPhone 7 screen keeps freezing on its own after repair

Hi. I bought an iPhone 7 about 2 months ago and I started having problems with the screen and it would completely freeze and stay like that for days (even after doing a hard restart). Anyway, I eventually got in touch with Apple support and followed their instructions to first restart it and when that didn’t work, update the software and finally do a factory reset. Since none of this worked, I took it to the store to get the screen completely replaced since they figured it was a hardware issue. Now, about a week later, the screen periodically freezes and starts working after half an hour (or so) of leaving it alone. It has become so frequent that I can only use my phone for a couple minutes before it freezes again!

Solution: If the problem remains even after a screen replacement, there are two possible reasons for it:

  • a bad app had been reinstalled after the service, or
  • there may be a general motherboard malfunction

To see if the problem is being caused by a bad (possibly third party) app, you can try to factory reset your iPhone and observe it for some time. By doing this, you can leave all software information at their defaults. Make sure that you don’t add any app during the observation period. To factory reset your device, follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Reset.
  4. Tap Erase All Content and Settings.
  5. If prompted, enter your passcode.
  6. Tap Erase iPhone.

Now that your iPhone has been factory reset, use it for several hours or for a day. See to it that you don’t install any app during this time. If the screen continues to work erratically, you can assume bad hardware is to blame. Bring the device again to Apple so they can repair or replace it.

Problem #3: What to do if your iPhone 7 touchscreen becomes unresponsive after accidental drop

Hi. I’ve dropped my iPhone. I’m not sure if this is the cause of the problem though; the touchscreen at the bottom of my iPhone only works doing certain tasks, writing this email is going as it should but if I want to download an app the touchscreen is unresponsive. When I attempt to press to install the app, I’ve had to enlarge my icons on my iPhone, this is the only way the touchscreen responds when I press the Nixon’s at the bottom of my screen such as safari or settings, I’d appreciate any suggestions to rectify this problem, I’ve downloaded the latest update for my iPhone, many thanks.

Solution: If the touchscreen only starts having this problem after the phone was dropped, you can assume the screen must be damaged to a certain degree. An iPhone’s screen assembly is composed of three major parts: digitizer, monitor/LCD, and digitizer flex cable. The monitor is the one that displays the images you see and it works similar to your computer’s monitor. The digitizer is a thin transparent layer of touch-sensitive material on top of the monitor. It’s main function is to detect your touches. Signals from the digitizer are then transmitted to the motherboard via the digitizer flex cable. These three compone nts must be in top shape all the time to avoid causing display problems. Dropping the phone may have damaged one or some of these components causing the issue you have. The touchscreen issue you’re experiencing may be due to a damaged digitizer or digitizer flex cable. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to fix a broken hardware with software tweaks. Repair is necessary in order to know if the screen assembly can still work or not. A technician needs to physically examine the device to do that. We suggest that you bring the phone to Apple for repair.

Problem #4: What to do if iPhone 7 Home button is damaged after accidental drop

I dropped my iPhone but it didn’t crack and it had a case to protect it. It worked fine for a few moments and the phone reset itself and it was stuck on the repeating flashing apple logo. It finally turned back on after about 15-20 minutes and worked fine but the home button won’t work. When I tried to do a hard reset; it will do the black screen with flashing white Apple logo and keep repeating itself. After about 15-20 mins it will kick on. So now I’m stuck using the assistive touch home button. I recently downloaded the new version of Apple update and home button still not working. 11.4.1. When it restarts it says unable to use Touch ID. I tried going to turn off Touch ID and set up again and it also says unable to use Touch ID.

Solution: You have a broken Home button. That’s clearly demonstrated by fact that it doesn’t detect your fingerprint or Touch ID. Have the phone repaired by Apple so the Home button can replaced.
