How to Turn Apple Watch 4 Off and On (or Force Restart If Frozen)

Need to restart your Apple Watch 4? Unlike iPhones, there’s no “Restart” button — you’ll need to power it off and turn it back on manually. Whether you’re troubleshooting or just want to refresh its memory, here’s how to do it safely without losing your data.

How to Turn Off Apple Watch 4

  1. Press and hold the Side Button (the long button next to the Digital Crown).
  2. Wait for the Power Off slider to appear.
  3. Drag the Power Off slider to the right.
  4. Your watch will shut down completely.

⚠️ You can’t turn it off while it’s charging — remove it from the charger first.

How to Turn It Back On

  • Press and hold the Side Button again until you see the Apple logo.
  • Give it a few seconds to fully reboot.

How to Force Restart Apple Watch 4 (If It’s Frozen)

Only do this if the screen is unresponsive:

  1. Press and hold the Side Button + Digital Crown at the same time.
  2. Keep holding both for at least 10 seconds.
  3. Release them when you see the Apple logo.

This won’t delete your data — it just forces a reboot, similar to a hard reset on a phone.
