POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS ON HOW TO FIX TOUCH ID NOT WORKING AFTER UPDATE TO iOS 13.1.1 ON  iPHONE

Solution 1: Fingerprints should be clean and dry

For those with Touch ID feature, we are all aware that we can add as many fingers as we like for the Touch ID. Most of us usually use particularly our Thumb as this is more convenient than using all the other fingers.

Before you used that particular finger to unlock your iPhone, always remember that Touch ID doesn’t work when you’re fingers are dirty and wet. Dampness, sweat and moisture all contribute to the sensors inability to recognize the fingerprint.  Make sure that you clean your fingers first, free from dust particles, and pat it dry after. This will ensure that the fingerprints that touches the Home or Touch ID button that comes in contact with the sensors can be recognized.

Solution 2: Force restart your iPhone

To refresh your iPhone, restart/reboot your iPhone by:

  1. Press and hold the Power/Sleep & Wake Button, located at the right side of your device.
  2. Next, Press and hold the Volume Down Button, located at the right side of your device.
  3. Simultaneously press and hold the Power/Sleep & Wake Button and Volume Down Button until the device turns off.
  4. iPhone automatically turns on
  5. Finally, release the Power/Sleep & Wake Button and Volume Down Button when the Apple Logo appears.

Solution 3: Remove and add your fingerprint

After rebooting or restarting your iPhone, this time you can unlock the iPhone using the registered passcode. Given that, it is advisable to remove your existing fingerprint and add a new one. As this can sometimes help solve the issue.

To remove fingerprint;

  1. Go to Settings from the Home Screen
  2. Scroll down from the list of options and tap on Touch ID & Passcode
  3. If required, enter correct Passcode
  4. Tap on Fingerprints
  5. Then tap on Remove Fingerprints

To add a fingerprint,

  1. Go to Settings from the Home Screen
  2. Scroll down from the list of options and tap on Touch ID & Passcode
  3. If required, enter correct Passcode
  4. Tap on Fingerprints
  5. Tap on Add a Fingerprint and instructions will be displayed.
  6. Then Calibrate your fingers.

When calibrating your fingerprints, hold your iPhone as normally as possible like you used to during normal use. Always remember that when calibrating, all parts of your fingers should be scanned. Therefore make sure to put your fingers including its edges and tips in all possible positions. Your fingers should also touch the metal ring surrounding the Home Button to ensure that all parts of the fingerprints are being correctly scanned.

Solution 4. Touch ID and Passcode Enabled

Once your desired fingerprint has been added, check whether Touch ID is enabled by doing this steps:

  1. Go to Settings from the Home Screen
  2. Scroll down from the list of options and tap on Touch ID & Passcode
  3. If required, enter correct Passcode.
  4. Choose and select which options you want Touch ID to be used for: iPhone Unlock, iTunes & App Store and Password AutoFill

Solution 5: Reset all settings

To note, this method does not delete personal files. It only deletes saved passwords and brings all settings back to default. Make sure to have a copy of your saved passwords such as WiFI and email passwords to prevent sign in problems after the process.

To reset all settings:

  1. Go to Settings from the Home Screen
  2. Scroll down to the list of options and Tap on Reset.
  3. Tap on Reset All Settings
  4. Enter Device Passcode when prompt.

If the above steps has been resolved, there was a possibility that the problem was related with the system update, however if some cases it did not help,  it may be caused probably by a hardware issue.
