iPhone XS Internet Too Slow? Here’s How to Fix It

If your iPhone XS is crawling when browsing websites or using apps—even with Wi-Fi or cellular data turned on—you’re not alone. Slow internet can be caused by weak signals, network congestion, outdated settings, or even app issues. But before blaming your carrier or rushing to the Genius Bar, here are some easy fixes you can try first.

1. Check Your Signal Strength

Whether you’re on Wi-Fi or cellular, weak signal means slow internet.

  • Using cellular?
    • Go to Settings > Cellular and toggle Cellular Data off, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on.
    • Make sure you’re in an area with strong 4G/LTE coverage. Move outdoors if needed.
    • Check your data balance or cap by calling your carrier.
  • Using Wi-Fi?
    • Move closer to your router.
    • If the signal is still weak, unplug your modem/router, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
    • Wait for all the lights to stabilize, then reconnect your iPhone.

2. Restart Your iPhone

A quick restart can flush out software glitches causing slow internet.

  • Press and hold the Side button + Volume Up (or Down).
  • When the Slide to Power Off slider appears, drag it.
  • After 30 seconds, turn your iPhone back on by holding the Side button.

3. Clear Safari’s Cache and Cookies

Old browsing data can bog things down.

  • Go to Settings > Safari.
  • Tap Clear History and Website Data.
  • Confirm when prompted.
  • Then restart your iPhone and try browsing again.

4. Update iOS and Apps

An outdated system can mess with your network performance.

  • Go to Settings > General > Software Update and install any available update.
  • To update apps, open the App Store, tap your profile icon, then tap Update All.

Tip: Safari only updates with iOS—so updating your system keeps it running smoothly.

5. Uninstall and Reinstall Your Browser App (if using a third-party one)

If the slow connection is only happening in Chrome, Firefox, or another browser:

  • Tap and hold the app icon.
  • Tap Remove App > Delete App > Delete.
  • Reinstall it from the App Store.

6. Reset All Settings

If the issue started after an update or settings tweak, this reset can help.

  • Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings.
  • Enter your passcode and confirm.

No data will be deleted, but Wi-Fi passwords and custom settings will be wiped.

7. Factory Reset (Last Resort)

Still no luck? It might be time to do a full reset—but back up your data first.

  • Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings.
  • Follow the prompts to complete the reset.
  • After reset, set up your iPhone as new and test the internet speed.

Still Slow? Here’s What to Do Next

  • Call your ISP or carrier to check for outages or throttling.
  • Restart or replace your router if it’s several years old or acting up.
  • Contact Apple Support to rule out hardware issues.
  • Or take your device to a nearby Apple Store or service center for further diagnostics.
