Logging out of Mail in iOS 15.6

If you have multiple email accounts, chances are that you’d be switching between different accounts more often. This also denotes frequent logging out and logging into an account.

Although the process of logging out of an email account is pretty straightforward, this can sometimes be confusing especially if you forgot which account you’ve logged into previously.

If you own an iPhone and you’re using the stock Mail app for email processing, logging out from an email account is quite different from other email apps like Gmail. This is because the pre-installed Mail app does not have a direct log out option.

If you’re new to iOS and need some input on how to log out of an email account from an iPhone in iOS 15.6, you can refer to the given instructions below.

Steps to Sign Out of Mail on iPhone in iOS 15.6

The following steps are based on the interface of the new iPhone SE 2022 (3rd generation) but are also applicable when signing out of Mail on other iPhones with the same iOS version.

Before you begin, verify and ensure that your iPhone has a stable internet connection either through a Wi-Fi or cellular data network.

Once you’ve got everything set, you may go ahead and proceed with these steps:

Step 1: To begin, open the iOS settings app. Just find and then tap the Gear icon from the Home screen of your iPhone.

What happens after logging out?

Once you’ve successfully logged out, you will stop receiving new emails including spam and scam emails sent to that account in your iPhone’s mailbox. You won’t also be able to send emails from that email account on your device.

Logging out vs. Deleting account in Mail

Logging out of your email account from Mail does not delete the email account/email address. And since the account remains in the system, you can still sign into that account whenever needed.
To completely erase or remove the account from your iPhone, just tap Delete account or Delete button from the mail account settings menu.

Signing back into an Account in Mail

To be able to send and receive new emails on your iPhone, you will need to set up another dedicated email account to be used as the primary email account for the iOS Mail app.

Should you wish to sign back into the same email account in Mail, just repeat the same steps to get back to the Mail app settings then turn the Mail slider ON again. Doing so will reinstate the email account and use it in the Mail app.

To check and see the changes, launch the Mail app and you should be headed straight to the email account’s inbox.

Setting Up a New Account

If you no longer want to use that email account and rather switch to a new email address, just add and set up your new email on the iPhone and enable that email account for Mail so that you can start managing emails from that account straight from the pre-installed email application.

To add an email account on the iPhone Mail app, just go to Settings-> Mail menu and then select Accounts. Tap the option to Add Account then select your email service provider from the list. If your email provider isn’t in the list, tap Other then tap Add Mail Account to proceed. Follow the rest of the onscreen instructions to complete the email account set up. After successfully adding the new account, you should be all set to sending and receiving emails for that account on your iPhone.

And that’s all about logging out of an account on an iPhone Mail app in iOS 15.6.
