How to Save Battery Life on Your iPhone 6s
If your iPhone 6s battery drains faster than you’d like, you’re not alone. While the 6s generally has solid battery life, it can wear down over time, especially with heavy use. Luckily, there are plenty of simple ways you can stretch your battery and keep your phone running longer without needing a midday charge. Here’s exactly how to get more life out of your iPhone 6s.
Turn On Low Power Mode
Low Power Mode is one of the best built-in features for saving battery. It reduces background activity and lowers performance slightly to extend your battery life by a few more hours.
How to enable it manually:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Battery.
- Toggle Low Power Mode to ON.
You’ll also get a prompt to turn it on automatically when your battery drops to 20%. Once it’s activated, you’ll notice the battery icon turns yellow. It turns off automatically once your phone is charged above 60%.
Heads up: With Low Power Mode on, background app refresh, automatic downloads, and some visual effects will be reduced or paused to save power.
Manually Lower Screen Brightness
Your screen uses a lot of battery. Keeping it dimmer can seriously help.
How to adjust screen brightness:
- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open Control Center.
- Drag the brightness slider to a lower setting.
Or, you can enable Auto-Brightness:
- Go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size.
- Turn on Auto-Brightness.
Turn Off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS When Not Needed
Wireless services like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS eat battery even when you’re not using them.
Turn them off when you don’t need them:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Privacy > Location Services individually to toggle them off.
Change App Sync Settings
Background syncing can drain your battery faster than you realize.
Here’s how to adjust it:
- Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts.
- Tap Fetch New Data.
- Set your accounts to Manual fetch instead of Push.
This way, your phone checks for new mail less often.
Disable Background App Refresh
Apps refreshing in the background can be a major hidden battery drain.
How to disable it:
- Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh.
- You can either turn it off completely or toggle it off for specific apps.
Close Unused Apps
If you leave a bunch of apps running in the background, they can slowly chip away at your battery life.
To close them:
- Double-press the Home button.
- Swipe up on the apps you’re not using.
Limit Third-Party Apps
Some third-party apps constantly ping for data or keep your screen active.
If you recently noticed a sudden battery drop, uninstall any apps you don’t really use or need.
Switch from LTE to 4G/2G When Needed
LTE uses more power than lower-speed networks. If you’re not streaming or downloading big files, consider switching.
Here’s how:
- Go to Settings > Cellular.
- Tap Cellular Data Options.
- Choose a lower network mode if needed.
Update to the Latest iOS Version
Apple often releases updates that improve battery performance.
To check for updates:
- Go to Settings > General > Software Update.
- If an update is available, download and install it.
Put Your iPhone to Sleep When Idle
Instead of letting your screen stay on, tap the Power button to lock it when you’re not using it.
You can also shorten the auto-lock time:
- Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock.
- Set it to 30 seconds or 1 minute.
Another trick: Face your phone down when you’re not using it. If it’s face down, your iPhone won’t light up for notifications, saving even more battery.
If your battery life still drops super quickly even after trying all of this, keep an eye on any recently installed apps—they could be the culprit. Deleting a problematic app might solve the problem completely.
