How to Set App Time Limits for Games on iPhone (iOS 16 and Later)
If your kid plays games on your iPhone, you can use Screen Time to automatically limit how long they use certain apps. It’s a simple way to manage screen time without constantly telling them to stop.
Turn On Screen Time (If It’s Not Enabled Yet)
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Screen Time.
- Tap Turn On Screen Time and follow the prompts.
- You can set it up as a Parent if this is for your child.
Set a Time Limit for Games or Specific Apps
- In Screen Time, tap App Limits.
- Tap Add Limit.
- Choose the app category (like Games) or pick specific apps from the list.
- Tap Next.
- Set the daily time limit (e.g., 1 hour).
- (Optional) Tap Customize Days if you want different limits on different days.
- Tap Add to save it.
Now, when the time limit is almost up, your child will get a 5-minute warning. After the limit is reached, the app will be blocked unless you allow more time.
Tips for Managing Other Apps
- You can repeat the same steps above to set limits for other categories like Social, Entertainment, or specific apps like YouTube or TikTok.
- If you don’t want the child to be able to bypass the limit, make sure to set a Screen Time passcode from the main Screen Time settings page.
