iPhone XR Keeps Dropping Wi-Fi After iOS 13 Update? Here’s How to Fix It

If your iPhone XR keeps disconnecting from Wi-Fi after installing iOS 13, you’re not alone. A lot of users have reported this issue, and it’s likely caused by a software bug or a settings glitch introduced during the update. The good news? You can usually fix it yourself without heading to the Apple Store.

Here’s a list of reliable solutions that can help you stabilize your iPhone XR’s Wi-Fi connection.

1. Reboot Your Wi-Fi Router

Before you tweak anything on your iPhone, make sure your home network is working fine.

  1. Unplug your router or modem from the power source.
  2. Wait for about 60 seconds.
  3. Plug it back in and wait until all the indicator lights are stable.

Once it’s back online, reconnect your iPhone XR to Wi-Fi and check if the signal still drops.

2. Restart Your iPhone XR

A simple restart (soft reset) often clears up minor bugs after an update.

  1. Press and hold the Side button and either Volume button until the power-off slider appears.
  2. Drag the slider to turn off your phone.
  3. After 30 seconds, press and hold the Side button again to turn it back on.

Once it boots up, reconnect to Wi-Fi and test your connection.

3. Toggle Airplane Mode

The Airplane Mode trick refreshes all wireless radios, including Wi-Fi.

  1. Go to Settings > Airplane Mode.
  2. Turn it ON and leave it for a few seconds.
  3. While still ON, restart your iPhone.
  4. After rebooting, go back to Settings and turn Airplane Mode OFF.

Then reconnect to Wi-Fi and check if the signal holds.

4. Forget and Reconnect to Wi-Fi

Sometimes, saved Wi-Fi settings can get corrupted after an update.

  1. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap the “i” icon next to your connected network.
  3. Tap Forget This Network > Forget.
  4. Restart your iPhone.
  5. Go back to Wi-Fi, select your network, and enter the password to reconnect.

5. Reset Network Settings

This clears out any problematic settings that could be causing connection issues.

  1. Open Settings > General.
  2. Scroll down and tap Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  3. Tap Reset > Reset Network Settings.
  4. Enter your passcode and confirm.

Your iPhone will restart and you’ll need to reconnect to Wi-Fi manually.

6. Turn Off VPN (If Enabled)

VPNs can interfere with network stability, especially after system updates.

  1. Go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management.
  2. If a VPN is active, toggle it off.
  3. To remove it completely, tap the blue “i” next to the VPN and choose Delete VPN.

After disabling or removing the VPN, restart your iPhone and test your Wi-Fi again.

7. Update Your Router’s Firmware

If your router is outdated, it might not play well with new iOS versions.

Check the manufacturer’s website or app for firmware update instructions. Update it if needed, then test your connection again.

8. Factory Reset Your iPhone (Last Resort)

If all else fails, a full reset might clear out deep software issues.

⚠️ This will erase all your data. Back up your iPhone before proceeding.

  1. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  2. Tap Erase All Content and Settings.
  3. Enter your passcode and follow the prompts.

Once your iPhone resets, set it up as new (or restore from backup) and reconnect to Wi-Fi.
