How to Set Up and Manage Wi-Fi on iPhone X
Wi-Fi is one of the first things you should set up on your new iPhone X. Whether you’re at home, in a café, or on the go, having a reliable internet connection is essential for using apps, browsing the web, and staying connected.
This guide walks you through everything from setting up Wi-Fi during the initial setup to managing hidden networks and fixing connectivity problems.
Set Up Wi-Fi During Initial iPhone X Setup
When you first turn on your iPhone X, you’ll go through a setup wizard. Here’s how to connect to Wi-Fi during that process:
- Turn on your iPhone X and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Choose your language and region.
- If you have another iOS device running iOS 11 or later, use Quick Start:
- Bring your current device next to the new iPhone X.
- Follow the onscreen prompts to pair them and transfer data.
- When prompted, select a Wi-Fi network, enter the password, and tap Join.
Your iPhone will stay connected as long as you’re in range of the network.
How to Connect to Wi-Fi After Setup
You can connect to Wi-Fi any time by doing the following:
- Open Settings → Wi-Fi.
- Turn Wi-Fi ON.
- Select a network from the list.
- Enter the password (if required) and tap Join.
You’ll see a checkmark and the Wi-Fi icon in the status bar once you’re connected.
How to Join a Secure Wi-Fi Network
Secure networks have a padlock icon next to them.
- Go to Settings → Wi-Fi.
- Tap the name of the secured network.
- Enter the correct password and tap Join.
If you can’t connect, double-check the password or contact the network admin.
How to Connect to a Hidden Wi-Fi Network
Hidden networks don’t show up in the Wi-Fi list, but you can still connect manually.
- Go to Settings → Wi-Fi → Other.
- Enter the network name (SSID).
- Choose the correct security type.
- Enter the password and tap Join.
You’ll know it worked when you see a checkmark and the Wi-Fi icon appear.
How to Turn Off Wi-Fi
To save battery or disconnect from Wi-Fi:
- Open Control Center (swipe down from the top-right).
- Tap the Wi-Fi icon to turn it off (it will turn gray).
Or:
- Go to Settings → Wi-Fi and toggle it off.
How to Forget a Wi-Fi Network
If a Wi-Fi network is giving you trouble, try forgetting and reconnecting.
- Go to Settings → Wi-Fi.
- Tap the (i) next to the network name.
- Tap Forget This Network.
- Reboot your iPhone if needed, then reconnect.
How to Disconnect from Wi-Fi Using Control Center
Want to disconnect without forgetting the network?
- Open Control Center.
- Tap the Wi-Fi icon (blue) — it will dim and your iPhone will disconnect.
- This also disables auto-join until the next day or until you re-enable Wi-Fi manually.
Stay connected and in control — whether you’re troubleshooting or just setting things up for the first time, these steps should keep your iPhone X Wi-Fi experience smooth.
