iPhone Not Showing Up on Windows 10? Here’s How to Fix It

Trying to transfer photos or sync your iPhone, but it’s not showing up on your Windows 10 computer? You’re not alone. Sometimes your iPhone just won’t appear in File Explorer or iTunes even after plugging it in with a Lightning cable. Here’s how to fix it and get your PC to recognize your iPhone again.

Try a Different USB Port

Sometimes, the issue is as simple as a faulty USB port.

  • Unplug your iPhone and plug it into a different USB port on your PC.
  • Avoid using USB hubs — connect directly to the computer.
  • Prefer USB 2.0 ports over USB 3.0, as they tend to be more compatible with older devices.

If your iPhone shows up, the original port might be damaged or temporarily unresponsive.

Restart Both Your iPhone and PC

A good old reboot can clear up temporary system glitches on both devices.

Restart your PC:

  • Save your work and do a standard restart.

Force restart your iPhone SE (or similar model):

  1. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button.
  2. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button.
  3. Press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo.

After both devices restart, reconnect the iPhone and check if it appears.

Inspect the Lightning Cable

The cable might be to blame, especially if it’s worn or non-certified.

  • Use an Apple-certified (MFi) Lightning cable.
  • Try using a different cable, if available.
  • Check for visible damage like fraying, bent pins, or loose ends.

If switching cables fixes the problem, your original cable is likely faulty.

Check the iPhone’s Charging Port

Debris or corrosion inside the port can block the connection.

  • Use a flashlight to inspect the Lightning port.
  • Remove any lint or dirt using a toothpick or plastic-safe brush (gently!).
  • Make sure the port is dry and free from moisture.

Even tiny obstructions can prevent data transfer.

Trust This Computer Prompt

Sometimes the connection fails simply because the iPhone hasn’t been granted access.

  • When you connect your iPhone, unlock it and look for a “Trust This Computer?” prompt.
  • Tap Trust, and enter your passcode.

If you miss this prompt, disconnect and reconnect your iPhone.

Update or Reinstall iTunes

If your PC doesn’t have the right drivers installed, your iPhone won’t be recognized.

To reinstall iTunes:

  1. Uninstall iTunes via Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
  2. Go to the official Apple iTunes download page (not the Microsoft Store).
  3. Download and install the latest version.

Once installed, connect your iPhone again and open iTunes. It should recognize your device and install necessary drivers.

Update Apple Mobile Device USB Driver Manually

Still not working? Your iPhone drivers may need to be refreshed manually.

  1. Connect your iPhone to the PC.
  2. Press Windows + X, then select Device Manager.
  3. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers or Portable Devices.
  4. Look for Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.
    • If it’s missing or has a yellow warning icon, right-click and choose Update driver.
    • Select Search automatically for updated driver software.

If that doesn’t work, uninstall the driver and reconnect your iPhone to force Windows to reinstall it.

Still Not Showing Up? Try Another PC

As a last test, connect your iPhone to a different Windows PC. If it works there, the issue may be specific to your computer’s configuration. If it doesn’t work, the problem likely lies with your iPhone or cable.
