iPhone 8 Keeps Losing Signal or Dropping Service? Here’s How to Fix It

If your iPhone 8 keeps dropping its signal, missing calls, or constantly shows “No Service,” you’re not alone — and yes, it’s super frustrating. This kind of issue can be caused by anything from a bad SIM card to buggy software or even a temporary outage in your area. Here’s how to troubleshoot and hopefully fix the problem.

Check for Outages and Account Status First

Before messing with your phone, make sure your carrier isn’t having a service outage in your area. Also, confirm that your account is in good standing — unpaid bills or account suspensions can result in signal loss.

Restart Your iPhone

A quick reboot can clear out minor glitches that may be messing with your network connection.

Here’s how:

  1. Press and hold the Power button until “Slide to Power Off” appears.
  2. Drag the slider to turn off your phone.
  3. Wait 30 seconds, then press the Power button again to turn it back on.

This alone often fixes temporary signal issues.

Remove and Reinsert the SIM Card

A loose or faulty SIM card can cause your iPhone to constantly lose signal.

To safely remove and reseat it:

  1. Turn off your iPhone.
  2. Use a SIM eject tool or a paperclip to pop the SIM tray out (right side of the phone).
  3. Remove the SIM and check it for scratches, dirt, or damage.
  4. Reinsert the SIM carefully — make sure it’s properly aligned.
  5. Turn your iPhone back on and check the signal.

If your SIM looks damaged, contact your carrier for a replacement.

Reset Network Settings

If your iPhone’s network settings are misconfigured — which can happen after updates or manual changes — resetting them can help.

To reset:

  1. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset.
  2. Tap Reset Network Settings.
  3. Enter your passcode and confirm.

This wipes saved Wi-Fi networks, VPNs, and Bluetooth devices, so you’ll need to reconnect afterward.

Update iOS

Apple includes bug fixes in every iOS update, and signal problems are sometimes caused by software bugs.

To check for updates:

  1. Open Settings > General > Software Update.
  2. If an update is available, tap Download and Install.

Make sure you back up your phone before updating, just in case.

Factory Reset (If Nothing Else Works)

If your iPhone 8 is still dropping signal after trying everything above, a full reset might fix deeper software issues.

To do a factory reset:

  1. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings.
  2. Enter your passcode and follow the prompts.

This will completely erase your phone, so back everything up beforehand.

Use iTunes to Restore iOS

Prefer doing it through a computer? You can use iTunes (or Finder on macOS Catalina and newer) to restore your iPhone:

  1. Connect your iPhone 8 to your computer.
  2. Open iTunes or Finder and select your device.
  3. Click Restore iPhone and follow the instructions.

Be sure to use the latest version of iTunes to avoid compatibility issues.
